The first NBA coaching change of the 2010-11 season has occurred, and it involves a big name. The Charlotte Bobcats announced the Larry Brown has resigned effective immediately, and his coaching staff might be going with him. Fanhouse.com's Sam Amick, via Twitter, reports that Brown's entire staff has been let go. Brown was in his third season with the team, and last season guided the Bobcats to a 44-38 record and the first playoff berth in franchise history. This season, however, Charlotte has struggled to a 9-19 record and has lost its last four games. Brown has increasingly frustrated with his team's effort. Brown was the third head coach in the history of the Bobcats, who debuted in 2003 under current Blazers assistant Bernie Bickerstaff. Hall of Fame guard Michael Jordan purchased a minority share of the team in 2006 and took over running the basketball operations.
Screw Larry Brown. I hate how he gives up on teams like that. He resigns, but wants to keep coaching. too bad. Finish out your contract. I hate the weasel way he interviews, and gets himself fired, so he can go to his new job, while getting paid for an old one. Yeah, he's a better coach than nate. And I want an upgrade, but I wouldn't want him as our coach, personally.
It was said in the espn report that the resignation was mutually agreed upon. I would be happy to see LB as the Blazers coach.
If I thought we were contenders, I'd want Larry. He can win you a championship. But if you're not contenders, he's a short term shot of adrenaline. The team will improve markedly for a year or two and then tune him out, and then he'll move on. If we'd had LB in 2000 instead of Dunleavy, I believe we'd have a championship or two more.
LB was still coaching . . . there should be some kind of age limit. Isn't he reaching Joe Paterno age?
The headline allows him dignity by saying he resigned, but Rick Bucher says he was fired. Brown has had 3 30-point blowouts in the last 10 days. Their next 3 games are against pushovers. Victories would put Charlotte right back into playoff contention. Bucher says it was timed for that.
There's also the issue of whether he no longer meets the height requirement. As you age, you can't stand totally straight anymore.
It definitely is. Why I don't want him. I can't respect that. He should hang it up. He WAS a great coach.
