http://www.sportsnet.ca/more/2010/12/22/gsp_athlete_of_the_year/ This just in--Canadians like Georges St. Pierre. At least the frequent visitors of sportsnet.ca do. For the third year in a row Ground St. Pound has won the fan-voted Athlete of the Year poll, once again defeating golden boy Sidney Crosby (2nd) of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sportsnet's award is not actually recognized. It's just a fan poll. The real award, voted upon by the Canadian Press, is the Lou Marsh Trophy. 2010 NL MVP and Hank Aaron Award winner Joey Votto has already won it for this past year. Crosby won in 2009 and wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc in 2008. So when Dana White says GSP is Canada's top athlete each year, keep in mind its just a poll on a website.
Sydney Crosby should have won all canadian related awards this year, dude scored the goal of a generation and won hockey gold for canada in canada.
Toews had a better year than Crosby. He was more effective in the Olympics and also took home the cup as the playoff MVP, IIRC.
