Although technically you are correct that all DNA gives us is "hints, clues, and indications", they are very strong hints, clues and indications and can paint a very trustful picture. The fact is, that in science nothing is ever proven, only disproven, so hints are all you get. If you get hints that are repeatable then you have a hypothesis to test, and over time if the hypothesis can't be disproven, then we start to believe the hypothesis. But, that hypothesis is never actually proven. As someone who works in a microbiology lab, I will say that DNA is not used as the bible. At least in the vast majority of occasions. DNA in a scientific setting is used to provide a specific result via experiments. The results of the experiment provides the data, not the hypothesis.
