You guys act like there were no fun games when Roy played. Remember when we beat Miami and Chicago by 40+ points?? Was that not an exciting brand of basketball? As for winning playoff series with Roy, he has only played in ONE full series healthy. ONE. How can you judge his effectiveness by one series? Oh and the two games we won against the Rockets? Those were the games where we ran most of the offense through Roy. Remember his 40+ points in Game 2? We didn't lose that series because we played too much ISO ball. We lost that series because we didn't play ENOUGH Roy ISO ball. The most fun stretch of basketball this team has played in recent memory was the 13 game win streak including wins in Utah and Denver. Roy played on that team. You guys are funny. You bitched about Sheed wanting to play team basketball instead of stepping up dominating the ball and playing like a superstar. Then we get Roy, who dominates the ball and plays like a superstar (3 straight All Star appearances), and you don't like it. Make up your mind, Blazers fans.
You have to admit that the team plays a different style of basketball without Roy. If you don't see it, I don't know what else to say to you.
I think Kingspeed's point was pretty valid. A few people inferred that a team without Brandon is more enjoyable to watch because there is more people involved. A little more uptempo, and an offense that was easier to watch. And compared to earlier this season (A whole 15 games ago) this is true. But Kingspeed's point was that there has been plenty of very exciting games over the last 3+ years where the offense was very fun to watch. And Roy was a big part of it. It's not like the guy dosn't like to pass. Yes he did dominate the ball in crunch time, and in small doses that still would be a great option to have if he was completely healthy. But he is not so the offense needs to be run by a true point guard. But having Roy out there on the court is not a bad thing either. We need him, we just need him to adjust his game. The offense early in the year was very painful to watch, but lets not forget so easily how fun he can be to watch. I think back to the end of last year in LA aginst the Lakers (Before Brandon got hurt)Everything was clicking. The offense was very easy to watch with Miller and Roy playing well together.
The point I think Natebishop3 was trying to make by saying it was in the past is that Roy is not capable of performing like that anymore, at least not right now. I could be wrong.
A GM would be stupid to dump him so quickly. (Unles you got an excellent player in return. ( which is absurd to think will happen until he proves he can play). So I guess we will all have to wait another YEAR to find out. He ain't going anywhere, and we need him right now. But I would like to see him come off the bench until he proves he can move.
The team has only had two weeks to learn how to play in offense where everyone is involved; it will take more time; there will be ups and downs. They also used up a lot of energy on defense tonight.
Ding ding ding! We can talk about how great Roy was, and what the team accomplished with Roy over the past four years, but those days are over. It's a different team and a different Roy. Gone is Travis Outlaw, Steve Blake, Martell Webster, and a number of other players that were here when Roy joined the team. In their place is a different team, with different weapons, and different strengths. Wes Matthews, Andre Miller, Marcus Camby, Dante Cunningham, and Patty Mills will play a different style than Blake, Outlaw, Webster, Channing Frye did. You can't plug a bunch of square pegs into round holes and expect them to fit.
So...no GM in the league wants him, but only a stupid GM would want to trade him? You do see a *slight* contradiction there?
And your point is? Seriously, there are 2 options here. A) We have been told the truth, and Roy has permanent knee damage. He is no longer a franchise player, and he is only going to get worse with age. B) We have been lied too, and Roy is pulling a Vince Carter. If that's the case, would you actually WANT the POS on the team?
No....... that is not what I said. I never said no one wanted him. I said no one will give us fair value until they know he can still play at a high level. And we would be stupid to dump him until we know for sure either. Can you imagine if we gave up on him after 30 games and he played another 7-8 years at a high level?
