After a very hot start we've taken about 4 or 5 horrid shots in a row. Dorell being aggressive = bad. I think when coaches tell him to be more aggressive they envision shades of a prime T-Mac but it just turns out with him fading away at 18 feet from the baseline. Stick to jumpshooting and pump faking.
I didn't realize the game started so early tonight...did i miss anything notable in the first 6 minutes?
Lou playing pretty well. Team was insanely hot to start the game but all of their shots were good ones, they were knocking them down. Then a few minutes of awful offense. Starting to steady out again. Josh Smith eating us alive on the offensive glass.
Smart's response to our frontline being outmatched; swap Lou for Vlad. The Hawks make us look like complete morons, dunno how we're only down 4.
After giving up a 3 to end the 1st quarter Smart hasn't put Curry back in yet. Its nice to punish him for making a mistake but it seems detrimental to our chances of winning keeping him out that long.
Lucky to be down 5 at half time. Lots and lots of really bad turnovers and bad plays although they do show flashes of beautiful play.
Benching Curry is ridiculous to me. I guess he sat him for letting Crawford hit that corner 3, he also had some stupid turnovers (which again, seems to be the difference) but come on...we're so less effective on offense without him. Stupid turnovers from everyone.
3 3's for ATL to start the half...more dumbass turnovers for us, no bueno. I reaaaaaaally don't like their PA announcer.
Wow, we got bullied down low and they were just nailing their jumpers...and again, our turnovers aren't doing us any favors. More examples of a puzzling substitution pattern, but I won't blame the loss on that. But, why hasn't Josh Smith been brought up in these potential Monta trades? Is he completely untouchable, or what? He's a pretty nasty 3.
The problem is I don't think he'd be nearly as good a 3 as he is a 4. And I don't think a team can win a championship if hes your 4. Hawks are so much better than we are. They played great but we killed ourselves with a lot of very dumb plays. We need to minimize mistakes.
This was a weird game. Obviously the big three struggled some, but what's with Smart? No Udoh in the second half despite two offensive boards in five minutes in the first. Just having a presence on the offensive glass would have been nice. We got to see B Wright who plays with no heart get some run. Curry played less than 30 minutes. Is he this out of shape or I missed much of the first half, but you all are saying he was benched? This is really weird. I'd assume at least Law would get some minutes, but he got a dnp. The team would make consecutive horrid possessions where they weren't even playing basketball on offense and there was no contestants of shots, yet the time outs seemed to come late and as kind of noted already, the substitutions/lineups were strange. This wasn't a good outing for Smart's and his team.
Sounds like Smart needs to go if he keeps closing with Vlad. This is ridiculous. Wright vs Smith, Udoh vs. Horford would be better.
Smart is too passive. He seems to disappear in games. Maybe this team needs a Mike Singletary type coach to get on some of the players to get them fired up. I just saw bits and pieces of the first half on league pass. The Hawks were trying to neutralize the GSW backcourt, especially Monta. Joe Johnson did a great job posting up Monta. He wore him down. The Hawks with Joe Johnson and their front court led by Josh Smith were too big and too strong. They were going to swing it inside to outside to tire out the Warriors. I hate to say this, but this is they type of game where Don Nelson did his best coaching. He took the mismatches and turned them to his advantage. He would have tried to run the Hawks down and played small ball. The slower tempo without Nelson eventually turned to the Hawks favor when GSW's shots did not fall. Rebounds were even. Offensive boards were even. Number of possessions were even. The Hawks shot a better percentage and it was a low scoring game for GS.
The Hawks did a tremendous job on defense. Denied everything to the basket. They have the players to make that happen. Terrible performances by Monta and Steph, although Steph had a bunch of assists. Still too many turnovers by both. Lee was just OK...didn't seem to be playing with too much energy. D. Wright. Tremendous game...wasted. Keith Smart...I don't think he knows what he's doing. Starting to really scare me.
The Hawks defense was pretty good. I don't think Ellis and Curry had a lot of turnovers. Curry had a good assist/to ratio with 12 assists and 3 turnovers. Ellis was not bad with 4 assists and 2 turnovers. The Warriors were caught helping a lot from the perimeter to the inside. As bourne said the Hawks were doing a lot of inside out plays. This led to a lot of open, uncontested perimeter shots for the Hawks because the Warriors were very quick at helping inside and they struggled to get back to their man on the three point line when after the kick out. That helping defense is fine against teams like the 76ers and the Blazers because those teams are poor shooting teams. But it really did not work that well against the Hawks. Bibby and others finally heated up. Also as you said Doctor Kajita the Hawks defense really kept the Warriors from getting inside shots. This and I think some confused plays led to a few too many 3 pointers attempted by the Warriors with 24.
Whoops, that's what I get for not checking the box score. Did not realize the TO's were not that abundant. Perhaps it was how they turned it over.
