Yet he is an NBA allstar. That right now on this team would help a lot. NOt saying I would have kept him here this long, I wouldn't have jumped the gun and traded him at that time.
We've been without a backup PF since we traded him basically. I still can't fathom how we haven't addressed this.
better than Frye and Outlaw. They were really not "fine" at all. They were horrible. And he would have been PF and LMA center the last season and change anyways. actually most of the last 3 years since Oden had been hurt.
I'm sure StatBO would have been thrilled coming off of the bench for 3 years. He was always a "team first" guy!
Frye and Outlaw were not terrible, especially Outlaw, and they made close to nothing. Last season, sure. Once KP made the great trade for Camby...hell no. Besides, the years before that I'd still prefer Aldridge/Przybilla. I mean...they did win together after all. Also, with Outlaw they could play him at the 4 and Aldridge at the 5 late in games and it worked. They won 54 games doing that.
I've already explained this to you, but Zach's best season by far statistically was 2005-06. Better than last year as an "All-Star", better than this year. That team won 21 games with Zach putting up a career season. Good riddance.
It would have been great to have him starting and Aldridge coming off the bench, playing both the 4 and 5 spots. The Blazers probably would not have ended up paying Aldridge nearly as much as they did, also. Ed O.
Correct. Also, I did the figuring wrong. The first of those three offensive boards were off of a Mayo miss, so that means 3 of his offensive boards overall were off his own misses, not four. Ed O.
I'd rather pay Aldridge $4-5M to put up 18/8 over that time period than paying Randolph's huge salary to put up about 20/10 and not letting Roy control the offense. Also, it's not like Aldridge is grossly overpaid. He's making $10M this season.
You're actually paying Francis, too, for much of that time. While settling for crap at the backup power forward spot. I'd definitely rather have taken my chances with talent rather than "chemistry". I'd rather him be making $8m, which would be easier to have done if he'd been a quality backup than a promising starter. Ed O.
That would be a great plan if Randolph had shown any leadership skills and an ability to make teammates better. Instead, he was a mess off of the court, and the team was a mess on the court. The fact that both New York and the Clippers got rid of him quickly validates KP's trade, IMO. Now, Zach is on a team of lottery picks, puts up All-Star numbers, and still can't make the playoffs. This tells me he still isn't making his teammates better players.
Frye/Outlaw the year after Randolph were traded were not "crap". They were actually very serviceable while making basically nothing. Next year Frye was crap, but Outlaw once again had a nice season and the Blazers won 54 games with him playing the 4 late in games. Besides, with Aldridge averaging 35min a game there wouldn't have been much left for Randolph. The team had Oden and Przybilla and Aldridge/Outlaw and the 4/5 worked great. They didn't need a grossly overpaid backup PF. That sounds like more of a wish than a realistic idea. I'm sure over that time Aldridge shows he's worth at least $10M a year as there was plenty of opportunities for him to play big minutes with Oden out and no Frye. In a very realistic scenario the Blazers would end up trading Randolph anyways because LaMarcus would have proven he's good enough to start while making like a 1/3 of what Randolph is. It'd be foolish to keep Randolph at that point. ZBO had no long-term future with the Blazers. It's really that simple.
Why do people like you say stuff like that? No one takes a team to the playoffs by himself. No one. Kobe couldn't do it in 2005. Wade couldn't do it in 2008. Can't be done. But get this- the last time the Blazers won 3 games in a playoff series, Zach Randolph was the leading scorer and rebounder in those three games. That's more than Roy or Aldridge can say.
Dude. They lost because Evans hit a 60 footer at the buzzer. What about the game in which the Grizzles beat us this season? That doesn't exactly support your argument.
Are you fucking serious???? With the ball in Roy's hands in his second year, he averaged almost 6 assists per game. When you let Roy have the ball, he is terrific at creating for his teammates. What the fuck?
Zach Randolph is 3-1 in the playoffs as a starter and he was the leading scorer and rebounder. If Cheeks started him earlier, we would've won that series. And the Blazers improved (but failed to make the playoffs) in our first year without him because we had an improved experiences second year Roy. We probably would've made the playoffs that year if we had kept Zach. Especially since Oden was out for the year.
