Ok say your the Lakers gm. If you have to choose between having shaq in his prim or having Kobe in his prime who would you choose??? Why am I making this topic??? Well I have noticed that a lot of the Lakers fans( not all fo them) seem to want Kobe more than Shaq even though I think everyone else here that isn't a Lakers fan would probably take Shaq in his prim in a heartbeat. So who would you rather have if you were the Lakers gm??? Shaq in his prime or Kobe who is currently in his prime??? I would take Shaq in a heartbeat. When Shaq was in his prime he couldnt be stopped. He was good for nearly 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks a night.. While he was in his prime he was arguably the most dominant player ever. I would think hed be the easiest choice. BTW I didnt think this topic would go in the comparasins category but if it is sorry.
I would take Shaq anyday. It's hard nowadays to find that kind of dominant big man. Shaq has an incredibly big body and he's always a threat in the low post. Like you mentioned, he can easily put up numbers like 30/10. Kobe is a scoring threat, but there are alot of scoring threats nowadays.
Easily Shaq, The only player i'd take A prime Shaq over is Michael jordan . As i've stated numerous times, a big man is much more important than a swingman and history has proven that.I think Shaq has had the longest prime we have ever seen, the minute he stepped onto an nba court he was in his prime.
Back up your opinions, guys... -------------------------------------------------Anyways, I'll take Shaq. Kobe was younger and more talented but as many people know, big men are hard to find. Especially GOOD big men. Shaq's career with the Lakers were the best statistical years of his NBA career. If LA traded Kobe to Miami, that would have been crazy. Wade and Kobe on the same team? Wow...the possibilites...
Shaq, as Zards said he's one of the best big men ever to play the game and big men aren't so abundant these days. He influences his team very positively everywhere he goes. Shaq is still very dominate in the paint and arguebely still in his prime.
I love all these 1 word answers! :thumbdn1: I think the easy and obvious answer is Shaq. Shaq in his prime, could dominate an entire game by himself. I mean this is only statistically, but in his prime he could give you 28-30 points, 11-13 rebounds, 2-3 assists, 3 blocks. Again those are only stats, but damn impressive. That's not what I'm going to base my answer on though, because I hate when people compare players by whipping out stat sheets. But Shaq is the most dominant big man I have ever seen play the game. Simple. Sure, I didn't have the privalege of growing up with Hakeem, Ewing, Wilt, Kareem, etc. in their primes. But I got to see 2 great centers: Shaq and David Robinson. Those 2 are my favorite 2 centers ever, probably because they are the only 2 great ones I got to see, but take it for what it's worth because I know that like 85% of you are my age or younger.Shaq wasn't/isn't just a player that came out, got the job done, and went home. He is a leader, a man of his word, and he really is a great guy too, who has a great sense of humor. But Shaq could, and still can to a point, dominate anybody in the NBA without any problems, even the biggest guys in the league (other than him). He is/was a complete monster doing anything on the court. You want him to post you up and make a little finesse hook or fake/pop shot? You want him to physically embarrass you in front of people watching, pull a power move and slam it in your face? You want him to spin off his man and go catch a lob for an alley-oop? You want him to post you up, draw the double team, and dish to the open man on the money? You want him to swat your shot? Sure, you got it. The ONLY flaw I ever saw in Shaq's game was his free throw shooting. That's literally IT.Kobe is a great player, and I call him the best in the world right now, but he was not when Shaq was on his team. That's all I have to say. You take to most dominant center to ever play the game over a superstar SG any day of the week.
I'll join on the Shaq lovingYoung Kobe>Old ShaqPrime Shaq>Prime KobeYoung Shaq>Young KobeI'll take a young Kobe just because it's better to build on in the future. Shaq has always been the better player between him and Kobe. If anyone remembers back in his Orlando days when he was in shape he would be a total beast. His second season in Orlando: 29 PPG, 13 RPG and almost 3 blocks per game which he averaged in his first season.I wouldn't take the free throw shooting away from him considering plenty of good centers struggle with free throw shooting such as Wilt and Bill Russell. Swingmen are easier to find in the NBA now, maybe not a Kobe Bryant but any decent swingmen can play well with Shaq on his team.
Come on Kobe fans speak up. Only Melo has so far. Are you to afraid to admit Shaq would be the better choice???

Shaq in his prime demoralised teams and no-one could stop him no matter what you threw at him. You cannot say that about Shaq now.edit: Iverson, why was this topic even made?

Indiana took it to an extreme, in one Game Shaq attempted 39 freethrows, a playoff record. He made 18 of them though.
Always have to go with a big man first. Shaq is a rare player. He is very agile for his size and weight.
In both their primes? Definetly Shaq. But the Lakers did make a good decision of keeping Kobe instead of Shaq in 04
If the question is about now, then Kobe wins by a mile. Perhaps Shaq could help out a team throughout 3 quarters, but the days of Shaq coming up big in the 4th Quarter are over. If Shaq is put in a situation where he needs to score 35 points to win, I don't think he could do it anymore.

Why is everyone saying good big men are hard to come by? If anything, in this era, good big men are the easiest thing to find. The power forward position is loaded with talent now a days. However, I would go with Shaq in this one. Shaq was the most dominant player ever, and there isn't a single sole in NBA history that could succesfully cover this guy. He also makes his teammates that much better, and brings alot of confidence to his teammates.
