Quarter Finals: F. Emelianenko vs. A. Silva (Feb. 12th) S. Kharitonov vs. A. Arlovski (Feb. 12th) A. Overeem (c) vs. F. Werdum (TBA) B. Rogers vs. J. Barnett (TBA)
Re: Fedor vs. Bigfoot back on? Arlovski vs. Barnett could be on the same card (2nd week of Feb. in NJ).
Re: Fedor vs. Bigfoot back on? Arlovski/Barnett isn't what they had in mind initially. It was going to be Kharitonov/Barnett and Arlovski/Overeem. I guess they are waiting on Overeem & Kharitonov who just came off the K-1 and Dream events. Emelianenko/Silva Barnett/Arlovski Werdum/Rogers Overeem/Kharitonov Since Overeem has already beaten Rogers and Overeem/Werdum would be too good for a first round fight, I guess it shakes out like this. Reem/Sergei would be a nice scrap. They've fought twice before, each getting a win, so it would be a rubber match, though I think Reem is beyond him now.
Re: Fedor vs. Bigfoot back on? I really hope SF pulls this tourny off. I know some of these initial match ups aren't the best they could be but if it shakes out as excepted with all the favourites winning the later rounds of the tourny can be really good MMA.
Re: Fedor vs. Bigfoot back on? Noooooo! SF has booked Overeem/Werdum in the first round. Now there is almost no chance of a Fedor/Werdum rematch.
Odd that SF put Reem and Fedor on the same side of the bracket. I would think they wanted them meeting in the finals should they get there.
The reason they put Fedor/Reem on the same side is because the odds of actually getting Fedor to fight three times in a year are pretty small. They couldn't match them up in the first round so they are ensuring that Fedor fights Werdum/Reem in the second round--supposing he can beat Silva.
Lets get some predictions in here! Round 1 Fedor over Silva Overeem over Werdum Kharitonov over Arlovski Barnett over Rodgers Round 2 Fedor over Overeem (if it stays standing, Overeem has a great chance) Barnett over Kharitonov Finals Fedor over Kharitonov
And shockingly, Overeem will be defending his belt against Werdum in a 5 round title fight. This must mean that the belt will continue to be on the line and the eventual winner of the GP will end up being the HW Champ.
