John Hollinger assesses the faltering Phoenix Suns on ESPN Insider and writes on yesterday's rumor du jour, that franchise point guard Steve Nash might be headed for the block. Hollinger names the Portland Trail Blazers as one of the teams that might be interested in Nash's services should the Suns decide to move him... -------------------------- Which takes us to the elephant in the room: Steve Nash. If the Suns do decide to rebuild, then obviously it makes sense to trade Nash while they still could command a huge ransom for his services. Although Nash is 36 years old, he remains among the most efficient offensive operators in basketball -- indeed, in all of basketball history. As such, one presumes he would command heavenly sums from contending-but-still-a-player-short teams like Orlando (again), Dallas, or perhaps even Portland. The Knicks, given the presence of Stoudemire and Mike D'Antoni, also present an intriguing possibility. So do the Hawks, if they could muster the gumption to take a risk or two, and the Rockets, who might score 300 points a game with Nash and Kevin Martin in the same backcourt. -------------------------- The knock against the Nash-to-Portland idea the previous 45 times it was floated was always the issue of pace and style, tracing back to a misfit alongside guard Brandon Roy. With Roy now out of the picture indefinitely, and no longer the roster centerpiece going forward, Nash's age becomes the biggest question when assessing his fit in Portland. He's got a few years left, max.
Miller moving for younger players makes sense to anyone with a brain. Portland giving up younger players for Nash makes sense for our sweet smelling GM

I know Miller is slow, but he has looked a half step slow (from his usual slow) all season. I also know he doesn't get off the ground much, but again this season looks different than last year. I believe Miller should be shopped, but I wonder what our new star LA thinks of that. I remember the big men in Philly saying they were going to miss Miller as he made thier job a lot easier with easy basket for them. I could see LA thinking the same thing. If Miller is traded, you would think it would have to be for a PG given taht Mills is next in line.
I bet Aldridge would love playing with Nash. He could become "STOUDEMIRE 2.0, NOW WITH DEFENSE!" The asking price would probably be Batum + filler. Which I'd seriously consider, depending on how likely the lockout is. We'd have a gaping hole at SF. But maybe you still have enough spare parts to get something done. Miller + ? = ?
Yes but that would probably blow my whole theory of Nash doubling a players output when playing with him! Unless of course Lamarcus started averaging 39.8 points and 19.2 rebounds a game when playing with Nash.....

Przybilla and Miller leave at the end of the year, cutting about $14 mil in salary for Phoenix. Childress is still a little intriguing. I know he's 27 and hasn't done much in Phoenix, but he's supposed to be a decent defender. Decent stopgap at SF. Although this deal hurts our pretty crappy depth even more, I'd really like to see Aldridge and Nash paired together.
Horrible trade. Miller is going to win us just as many titles as Nash would, so then it's Joel and Batum for Childress. Trading good young players only getting better to good old players only getting worse for a team that isn't close to competing is a recipe for the Knicks
Getting Nash makes no sense now. It would have made sense last season, or maybe the season before, but not now. He would help us slightly more than he is helping Phoenix. He needs to go to a contender. I'm surprised Orlando didn't try to get Nash.
I like both Nash and Josh Childress, but ultimately Nash just doesn't fit with the team's contention time frame any better than Miller and while I'm a fan of Childress' game, I believe Batum has a significantly higher potential ceiling. If Portland were a title contender this season and looking for a bit of a boost to become a likely favourite, this deal would make sense. You trade some upside for some present day certainty. But that's not the type of deal Portland should be making. While I've never advocated tearing it down, I do think that the team should be making more upside gambles, not trading away upside.
I think NY should make a move for Nash. With him they might actually make some noise in the playoffs.
