With the recent arrest of Zach Randolph, it got me thinking of all the players we have seen over the years in the NBA that have had so much potential but off the court issues have just ruined their game and for the most part, their careers. Randolph's "partner in crime" so to speak, Darius Miles, is another guy who seems to just be flushing his chance at a career down the drain. Miles was touted to be the next big thing coming out of high school and everywhere he's gone he has been problematic. In LA, I'll give him some sympathy, they were a team of teenagers basically without any leadership. So obviously that didn't work out. In Cleveland he clashed with Paul Silas and they know he wouldn't be a good example for LeBron so they dumped him. Then in Portland, he calls then coach Maurice Cheeks a racial slur (the n word). To think Miles wou;ld call him that is ridiculous. Then at the end of the season him and Randolph were told to leave the club for the rest of the season. There were some great talents in our lifetime that were just idiots and never amounted to anything. J.R. Rider was an incredible athlete coming out of UNLV and had legal problems, drug issues, he didn't show up to team meetings. He faded away slowly as well. It's just too bad. Shawn Kemp? The guy was spear-headed the Sonics to the NBA finals, a few seasons later he's a coked out 320 pound overweight joke. Then again there are the guys who can rebound from an unfortunate past. Lamar Odom had some marijuana related incidents where he was suspended. He has cleaned up his act and has turned into a very solid forward for the Lakers. You guys got any other What could have been players?
That's life though, It's stupid to judge someone you dont even know. people have problems, espically young black youth who come into money. But sitting on your computer all day talking sh*t(BCB!) about people you dont know isnt changing anything.

Have you ever heard of being responsible for your own actions? I hate when people try to act like these professional athletes are victims. Yeah Kemp may have had some problems in his life...he was also getting paid MILLIONS of dollars when he was acting like a freaking immature druggie. A lot of these guys are only victims of dumb decisions they made in their life.
Ron Artest was up there back when he was acting like a complete rebel in Indiana. He has changed his act so far in Sacramento even though he still remainds the same cocky person he always was. I remember Spreewell also when he would choke his coach, he cleaned his act up to.Let's not forget the craziest of them all, Dennis Rodman. Once showed up with a gun, the guy was totally insane but was one of the best players on the court.
Money doesnt mean they cant be human, people have problems, thats all I've got to say. You dont know them, dont judge them.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>You dont know them, dont judge them.</div>NO ONE forced them to take drugs. Never are we not responsible for our actions. You know what's wrong with our world? Everyone is trying to find any reason at all to make it look like it's not their fault. Wrong. We have our free will, and no one forces us to do anything.
I don't think people should make dumb mistakes like that whether they have money or not. You should at least have the ability to respect your coaches. I don't care if I know them or not, being black is not an excuse. If they make a mistake, they should learn from it (i.e. not Ricky Williams).
I have a couple of people that are what could have beens because of injury more than anything else. Grant Hill, he was one of the best players in the league at the time of his injury. Bobby Hurley would have been a good player if not for his car reck. Jay Williams could be a very good player right now if it wasn't for his motorcycle accident. Christian Latener had the skills, but never seemed to have the motivation or killer instinct, he was just to passive. Had he actually not been lazy, and got some confidnce he would have been a good player. So wow, i guess you could say alot Duke products could have been good, but something went wrong.
Kedrick Brown had a lot of potential comming into the league. Very athletic, good defender, ran the floor, and hustled. Then he gained weight, never developed a consistant jumper, and was out of the league by age 24 or 25.I also wonder how many more points Shaq would have scored if he shot even 70% from the line.
I have nvever thought Darius Miles was going to be anything. Even the few years where he wasn't an off-court problem, he showed no improvement whatsoever. Yet another example of a player making the NBA off athletisicm alone.
Miles was on the cover of SI with Garnett, he was also the big story out of the McDonalds High School All-American game. I've learned over the years as an NBA fan that you can never judge guys by the hype they get before they enter the league. Regauardless, I never understood why teams tried to turn him into a guard. He never showed that he any type of jump shot whatsoever, he made his points in the paint and off his dunks. He never really utilized those long arms he has.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Money doesnt mean they cant be human, people have problems, thats all I've got to say. You get a nice job when you are older and you start doing coke and acting like a f*ckin idiot. Do you get a 15 day suspension from work and get to comeback right after. NO. Your ass is fired. These guys are in a league where a certain behavior is expected of them, it is definately fair and any average joe could follow by
It isn't the court trial's which are bringing these players down, players like Miles, Randolph, and Kemp had zero motivation to get better from the beggining, they would just slack off and so never become the great player that they could've become. Just think about Kobe Bryant and the hell he went through 2 years ago. However he did not stop there, now look how he is doing.
