The fail goes to any Duck fan who thinks this has something to do with them. Believe it or not, Eugene is not the center of the universe and not everyone gives a rip about the ducks. Bummer to lose Quizz -- anyone who watched him had to love the way he played for the Beavs. I've got a friend of a friend who knows him and I've been hearing that fatherhood played a big role in the decision. Who knows if it's true, but I'd understand it. Best of luck to you, Quizz. We'll see you on Sundays.
Lets get real here for a second. Of all the days he can choose to enter, he does it the morning of the day that the Ducks are about to play in the National Title game. Something is suspicious about that.
Apparently it upset the Ducks so much that they lost. They need to focus better, if this mattered in even the slightest way. [Which, I doubt it actually did.] barfo
It had nothing to do with 'upsetting' the Ducks. It had everything to do with trying to take just a little bit of the focus off the attention the Ducks are getting on that day and trying to get people to focus on the Beavers. Why not hold out one day before the announcement. The timing is just silly.
You're missing the point -- yesterday was big to you because you're apparently a Duck fan. To anyone else, it was pretty much another Monday. The idea that Quizz woke up thinking, 'ha, ha I'm going to steal some news from the Ducks and make my announcement today" is really pretty ridiculous. At most, I could imagine he wanted to minimize the limelight on himself as much as possible when he made the announcement and figured he'd make the announcement when a lot of the local press was out of state. Honestly, I don't even get why you guys care. If the roles had been reversed and OSU and played last night, I wouldn't have given a rip about a UO player making a similar announcement. Would've been focused on the game my own guys were playing.
I'd guess the combine will reveal these two to be substantially different as far as speed. Drew is/was really really fast posting a blazing electronically measured 40 time of 4.39 seconds at his combine, which made him the fastest RB in his class. Jacquizz seems to have okay speed at best. I'd guess he comes in at his combine in the 4.6 range. Despite having months to focus on the combine tests (like the 40) it's pretty common for players to post higher times at the combine then their collegiate media guide claim & the draft sites echo... we shall see whats really what on this Regardless, I think this is a good decision because of the short shelf life reasons others have pointed to. Had he returned next season, his stock would have been unlikely to rise much (if any) as his size & and lack of top end speed concerns won't go away. He is shifty and decisive in his cuts though and at nearly 200 pounds he's a solid sure-handed option who could have a decent career in the NFL. Dude had a tremendous impact for Oregon State... best of luck to him STOMP
why use the plural here? MZ seems to care, but no other Duck fan here has chimed in. Personally I couldn't have cared less about the timing of his announcement. My reaction on hearing this was... good for him. I didn't give it a second thought until I saw this thread STOMP
Fair enough, Stomp. I didn't read closely enough to see it was one person. Lol, might not have even posted if I'd noticed that.
Quizz owns the Ducks. It's clear the difference in the game was him declaring for the draft. Damn Vulcan mind games!
For those who claim it was "just another Monday", I call bullshit. I don't have a horse in either program, but I would call LaMichael James out if he declared on the day the Beavers were going to play for the National Championship.
lol sorry I was referring to me moreso agreeing with this I'm not looking for an apology from you at all.
Why would he care about getting people to focus on the Beavers when he's leaving them for the draft? Parting gifts?
Repped for saying "couldn't care less" rather than saying "could care less" like most people who mis-use the statement.
It most definitely was not "just another monday". I've never seen so much traffic on a Monday in my life. The freeways and roads were packed with people trying to get home between 4pm and 5. Tons of people who probably hadn't watched a single Ducks game all year were rushing home to watch the NC. It might have been "just another Monday" to you because you chose not to partake, but trust me, quite a few other people were excited about that game and not just Ducks fans.
I'm not clear on the theory here. So he declared on Monday to take away attention from Oregon? Why? First off, anyone with any sense would realize that would fail - playing for a national championship is going to be much more of a story than one guy - and not a Heisman trophy guy - declaring for the draft. And indeed, the big story was, by far, Oregon/Auburn. Secondly, if you are a wanna-be NFL player, wouldn't you want the attention on you? It seems to me he did himself a disservice - he'd have been better off declaring on a slow news day, so that he could be the headline, instead of "Aw, Burned". Unless of course he cared more about sticking it to Oregon in a very ineffective way than about maximizing his personal outcome. barfo
