I don't care who any Trail Blazers root for in college sports. That's not why I like them. They can make fun of the Beavers and Ducks all they want, as long as they play hard for the team I truly care about.

I find it completly rediculous to root for any team other than the school you went to...Dante should keep it to Villanova, and that's it.

I think there's a difference b/w having a rooting interest (I was rooting against Cam Newton) and rooting for a team. I'll back Navy and the Trail Blazers, and the Seahawks and Mariners, b/c I grew up with them. However, if the Sox are playing the Yankees, I root heavily against the Yankees--not that I've ever lived in Boston. If UW is playing Nebraska, I'd like to see the Seattle program win, though I don't "root" for that team. It makes the games more fun to watch, right?

People are upset, bitter, and pissed off. I'm not surprised that some of them are lashing out towards Dante. Not saying it's right, but it's understandable.

With that said, I think it's classy that you decided to lump all Duck fans in with three people who did those tweets.

Actually, it's Duck fans that are despicable (they just happen to be a subset of Blazer fans). They are the same ones that repeatedly screamed WHORE! in the face of Kevin Love's granny and 14-year old sister when UCLA played in Eugene. I know Stan Love is supposed to be an asshole, but if someone did that to my mother and daughter, I'd beat the living shit out of them right them and there. I don't care if I would have been outnumber 20,000:1, if it would have started a riot and if I would have been arrested. Somethings cross a line, and that's definitely one of them. Oh yeah, they also sent death threats to Kevin Love's cell phone. Real classy. I was rooting for the Ducks tonight because they are the local team, but I swear, the collective classlessness of Duck fans makes it real hard sometimes to pull for that program.

Question: do you hear Duck fans ragging on Singler for going out-of-state?

My only objection to what Duck fans did, is that it was exactly what Stan Love wanted. They let the ass provoke them, and gave him an excuse to play the victim. He could have avoided the whole thing - just like the Singler family - by not trashing U of O.

Nike drove Love away from the U of O when they kicked him off their AAU team for playing at the Reebok ABCD Camp as a 16-year old kid -three years before he was he was even eligible for the NBA draft and a shoe contract . They never "fired" Kyle Singler. Besides, Singler never had the "pleasure" of playing the Ducks in Eugene. So, perhaps they would have called his granny a whore and threatened his life, too.

After Nike "fired" Kevin Love from their AAU team, there wasn't a chance in hell he'd go to Nike U. Blame Stan Love all you want, but his son made the right choice, and Ducks fans will always resent him for it. There is both good and bad from all the money Nike pumps into the U of O athletic department. Over all, I'd say it's a HUGE positive. All that money gives them world class facilities and helps them recruit, but it also comes with the risk that Nike may occasionally piss off one of their top recruits who will spurn Oregon for an non-Nike school. It seems at bit twisted that shoe companies have so much influence over "amateur" athletics, but that's the way it is, for better and worse.

To be fair, it just not right to generalize about fan bases. There is jackasses in every fan base. I think the worst I've ever heard was when the ASU fans mocked Steve Kerr after his father was assassinated in Lebananon.

I guess I must be "rediculous" (I assume the poster meant ridiculous, or is this a new word?) since I did not go to Oregon but I cheered for them. I cheered for the Stanford women to stop UConn's streak even though I (gasp!) went to Cal. I'm also planning to go to Palo Alto in a couple of weeks with a lesbian group to cheer on the Cardinal women against USC. I also went to Washington so don't know who I am "supposed" to cheer for when Cal and Washington play each other.

So I guess I'll forgot about whether or not I'm "rediculous" and cheer for whoever I want.

Not all of us went to schools with serious athletic programs. Am I supposed to get excited about crew, lacrosse and frisbee golf? I root for Oregon schools because I grew up in Oregon.

Yep. And in today's age of technology, the jackasses become even more vocal and visable.

I would hope most understand that the vocal asses represent a very small percentage of fanbase.
