“Ideally it would be better if they were adapted to English football,” he said. “If you need players now in January then you cannot wait three months before they can play. If the opportunity turns up we will fetch it but, if not, I believe we can cope.

“We always have people in mind and we check them out. We look everywhere. It’s difficult to find [them] at this period of the season but overall I feel at the moment we have so many games that it’s very important just to focus on the next one.

“We have solutions internally with Ignasi Miquel, with Alex Song who can play centre back and with Squillaci, who should come back very quickly.

“If we find somebody at the right level we will do it, if not we will continue like this.”

There is a rumour we might bring Sol Campbell back again. Pretty crazy if we did.

Wenger has put those rumors to bed, but we're definitely in the market for a centrehalf. I have my hopes on Mertesacker or Cahill. Spahic is also linked from last summer.

    Cana is a midfielder.

Mertesacker seems like the perfect candidate. Werder Bremen are terrible this year.

midfielder yes but most of the time he spends on defense, he's a tough s.o.b.

Mertesacker is not a bad choice either.

We already have one of the best defensive midfielder's in the league (Alex Song).

I get the feeling Wenger will go for an English defender, not sure why. Besides that Mertesacker and Gary Cahill are both good choices.

I just don't trust English at defending. (in soccer)

Even though we produce better defenders than attacking players... Okay.

    Not really saying much.

So few decent transfers happen in January that (especially with Wenger) I would be surprised if we came away with anything at all.
