He is the MVP of the Finals, but Steve Nash is, and would still have to be considered MVP of the regular season, taking the injury ridden Suns to a Conference Final.
Dirk isnt even the MVP of the finals so far, Terry and Stackhouse, and maybe even Devin have shown up much more.
I thought Dirk should've won the regular season MVP initially. It's too early to hand out the Finals MVP trophy, but if Dallas wins Dirk will obviously get it. Just like if Miami wins it will be Wade or possibly Shaq.

Dirk is averaging 28 points and 12 rebounds this postseason. He had a bad game 1 but still manged to get 16 points, 10 boards, and 3 steals. Last night he had 26 points. 16 rebounds, and 4 assists.Watch the games.
Dirk is a beast. Not only is he a pure shooter and impossible to guard but now he attacks the rim to get extra rebounds.
If Dirk wins a championship, he'll go into the Hall of Fame for sure. But I dont think he'll become Finals MVP. For some weird reason, I see Jason Terry winning it if the Mavs win the series.
Yeah, Stack hit the momentum baskets, but Dirk carried it through with consistent play throughout the game. He'll play better than the rest in the next few games, especially if Haslem is gone since that is one less decent defender to throw at him.Dirk will win the Finals MVP, and he will deserve it.
If Dallas wins the title, Dirk will be Finals MVP no matter what, even if Terry averages 25 points and 8 assists. If Miami wins, Shaq or Wade will get it, even if Antoine Walker averages 25 and 8. That's just the way it is.But on topic, the regular season MVP was a tighter race than any season I can remember between Nash, Kobe, Dirk, Billups, Brand, and LeBron. You could have made just as strong a case for either one.
WHEN Dallas wins in 5 I don't think it makes much of a difference. There were so many good candidates that you could give it to anyone, but I don't think this will make him the MVP when Nash did a good job in the playoffs too, same with LeBron. It's a regular season award anyway.
The only way you could think Stack or Jason have been more clutch is if you were watching the games blindfolded.Terry has had good games and is a consistent starter. Hell, he's had a few clutch baskets. Stack had a great night last night, but he comes off the bench. He is a major contributor, but there's no question that he doesn't deserve any MVP awards. What has Dirk done? Averaged the aforemention 28/12, he took game 3 against the Grizz to OT, took game 7 against the Spurs to OT, and scored 50 against the Suns in game 5 (a Mavs playoff record). How has anything that Terry, Stack, or for that matter, Nash done compare to that?Devin has averaged 6 points and half a rebound per game in these finals; it's stupid to even compare him to Dirk. Terry has had a higher average ppg in the finals, but that happens when you have a big game. By the end of the series, I imagine Dirk's averages will be the highest in most of the statistical categories, for the Mavs, at least.
First of all, I'd just like to point out that when we are talking about the Finals MVP, only the Finals are taken into consideration (or should be, atleast). I've seen a few posts in this thread where people are bringing up what Dirk did in the other three rounds. Second of all, the fans have a say in the Finals MVP, and thus you can bet your bottom dollar that if Dallas wins the championship, Dirk will be voted the Finals MVP.Now, if you take a look at player averages thus far, despite having a "poor" Game 1, Dirk is still averaging 21 PPG, 13 RPG, and 4 APG, whereas Jason Terry is averaging 24 PPG, 2.5 RPG, and 5 RPG.If Dallas wins, there is no doubt that Dirk will be the MVP. Likewise if Miami wins the MVP award will go to either Dwyane Wade or Shaq.
I was responding to the first post in this thread, where there was no mention of the finals. When you consider the playoffs, I think Dirk is a better player than Nash. That's all I'm saying.

Dirk has easily been the best player in these playoffs. However, to answer the initial question that this topic posed... I've said this thousands of times on countless forums: The playoffs have absolutely ZERO impact on who wins the REGULAR SEASON MVP award. The playoffs' MVP is addressed by the Finals MVP award.
Dirk will win the Finals MVP, as the Mavs WILL win this series. What a championship will mean for Dirk, is that he's better than other guys that some people compare him too...like Brand and KG.KG has an MVP, but when Dirk wins a championship, and Finals MVP, he'll be in the same breath as TD, Lebron, and Wade...and that's it.

Dirk will win MVP if his teams win the championship. Kinda like last year. Manu played better than Tim but Tim got it because he is the leader of the team. Thats just how it workks
Dirk will definatly win MVP if the Mavericks win the series because if it continues to be a wash they will just give it to the best player, not to say Nowitzki doesn't deserve he's put up huge games, but the voters will definatly give Nowitzki the benefit of the doubt. Unless Jason Terry just explodes in these next few games.
This is Dirk's playoff rankings in Dallas coming into this series. I'm pretty sure it's still the same...G: 1MIN: 1FGM: 1FGA: 13PM: 22PA: 2FTM: 1FTA: 1OFF REB: 1DEF REB: 1TOT REB: 1AST: 4STL: 1BLK: 1TO: 1PF: 1PTS: 1

Try doing those same rankings with Per Game statistics instead of total.
