Not the best starting 5 roster of one year, but the best center from 2000-2006, the best PF, etc. etc. C: Tony Battie PF: Antoine Walker SF: Eric Williams SG: Paul Pierce PG: Kenny Anderson Hmmm, have I seen this exact lineup before? LOL, very familiar. But hey, it's the truth. As far as career accomplishments, of course Payton comes in over Anderson. But Payton only played 1 season as a Celtic, and he played well, but again only one season (on his downfall I might add). Kenny Anderson played 5 years with us and played very very well. Sure, we made a mistake trading Billups for him, but without Kenny we would not have made the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals - I promise you that. You agree? If not, you will probably say Ricky Davis ahead of Eric Williams. But I definitely disagree. E did so much for this team it's not even funny. He didn't put up the big numbers every year, but there were a few years where he definitely did as well. He also provided a lot of hustle and defensive presence, as well as a MONEY mid-range shot from the left side.
I'd definately say good picks. These guys played the most together and remind me of the Celtics the most. They all gelled well, I agree with you it's dumb to put Ricky/Payton in there, they were here for a short time and never had the chemistry that all five of those guys had together.
Yeah, I loved that team man. Because we were just that, a team. The chemistry and respect for one another was incredible, and all of them were basically friends. I miss the good old days, and I firmly believe Danny made a mistake by fully tearing the team apart, rather than keeping the core and building from there.
Well as far as keeping the "core" goes Williams and Anderson are both done and getting Mihm for Battie seemed decent. But I agree I miss those days.
ignore this post,i misread the topic and posted the wrong thing...lol k and yea thats a pretty decent linuep but id still have mihm over battie, but thats just me
I agree with those picks. That was a great team. Really good team chemistry, I wish every team had what they had.

It was Tony Battie, Eric Williams, Kedrick Brown to Cleveland for Ricky Davis, Chris Mihm, Michael Stewart, and a 2nd round draft pick. See, Ainge could have built on Mihm/Walker/Pierce/Davis/Anderson or other PG. But no, he completely tore the team apart and set us back, no lie, about 6-10 years. It's already been 3 years, look where we are now :no3:
I think we're starting to get that chemistry back. Wally is a great guy to have around with Chemistry. And i don't think Danny will move many more pieces around. Young kids growing together should amount to great chemistry, especially with leaders like Pierce and Wally.

But this chemistry/friendships we have on this current team is a quarter of what we had in the early 2000's. Everyone was great friends with each other. Pierce/Walker still are great friends. Walker/E-Will started come type of charity thing together or something to that extent. Even that night Pierce got stabbed, he was out with Battie and his brother. Kenny Anderson and Tony Delk were friends. Etc. Etc.
I disagreePaytonDavisPierceWalkerBlountwas a better starting lineup. The chemistry was good if you don't count Blount, and we really took it to the Pacers in seven games. The east was weaker when we went farther with anderson etc...I'd rather have this lineup then the kenny one.

The 2001-2002 Celtics were the worst team to ever make the Eastern Conference Finals. I loved that team as much as anyone, but they just weren't that good. All they did was reign down 3's and hope for the best. Kenny Anderson wasn't that great either. He was solid that year, but I remember a few plays where he'd drive and then throw the ball up in the air to no one in particular. The Celts needed to take a step back in order to take two steps forward...but Ainge screwed it all up with the Walker trade. Now I'm not a huge Antione guy, but he is still a good player. Either he or Davis had to go, because there's no way they could've coexisted on the same team. Pierce would've never gotten any touches. If the Ainge was really against resigning Walker than he should've just let him go or traded him for a bigger expiring contract. Getting Raef Lafrentz has done nothing but cripple the Celtics for years. He adds nothing to the team. Off course the Celts might not be in the position they are now if their awful management didn't take a short-term view of things and trade away Billups and Joe Johnson before thay had a chance to develop. Can you imagine a starting lineup consisting of Billups, Johnson, Pierce, Walker, and Battie/Blount/Perkins/Whoever? They'd be a force. Don't even talk to me about the Vin Baker trade either. Ugh...Ricky Davis was an interesting experiment, but he ultimately proved that he wasn't the right sidekick for Paul Pierce. Is Wally the guy? I don't think so, but it's not like there's a hell of a lot of options with the current cap situation.

And I disagree, the trio of Pierce, Walker, and Davis was pretty lethal during the 2nd half of the season in 04-05 and they were an official 3-headed monster. It worked and they all respected each other and respected giving each other touches. I don't think that would have been a problem. But again, Walker was traded to Dallas before Ricky came to Boston. Also: Keep up the good work in your posting man. You seem pretty knowlegable and it's always good to have another Celtic fan added to the board.
Crap, mental block. I forgot that the Ricky trade didn't happen until halfway through the year. The reason it worked in 04-05 was because Ricky had calmed down by then. He wasn't the same hothead he was in Cleveland. If he was expected to coexist with Walker and Pierce immediately after leaving Cleveland I'm not so sure he could do it.
