Anthony Pettis was promised a title unification bout with the winner of Edgar/Maynard but since those two fought to a draw he isn't getting one--at least not soon. Pettis was facing a ten month layoff (or longer) if he chose to wait for the Edgar/Maynard second rematch but he has announced his intentions to fight in the meantime.

Whether his WEC title will be on the line is up in the air seeing as how the defunct promotion has already lost it's featherweight and bantamweight titles (now UFC titles). The WEC strap could function in the same fashion as an interim title but by another name.

It is likely Pettis would face George Sotiropolous or Jim Miller. Sotiropolous is booked to face Denis Siver at UFC 127 and Miller faces Kamal Shalrous at UFC 128. Both fighters could be ready to fight again in the springtime.

I would pay to see that. Guida deserves a shot and Pettis needs to fight before Edgar beats Maynard again.
