Duncan is the best out of position at center or not. I would take Duncan at center over anyone else at center but Yao is the best pure center.

Shaq was playing two, sometimes three guys down low. Yao Ming has never had the type of double team Shaq had yesterday, where someone was standing in front of him before he even got the ball. Shaq was being double teamed without the ball, one person between him and the basket, one person between Shaq and the one with the ball. The way Yao got played by the Mavericks on defense, and the way Shaq got played by the Mavericks are completely different like BCB said.Even earlier in Shaq's career, he was never double teamed like he was in game 2. With the Lakers, they had decent outside shooters so no one could double team him before he even got the ball. With the Magic, he had people that could hit the open shot, so they could not double team Shaq before he even had the ball in his hands.

Yao isn't the best centerin the game. I just don't think he is at the level to be the best center. And, you guys are bringing all of SHaq's bad games into this. Look at some of his better games also. Twice as good as Dampier will ever have. Also some of this is because Shaq is letting Wade lead the team due to Shaq being doubled all the time and Wade is so quick and strong he can take it to the hoop.
Shaq has been double and triple teamed his whole career and has had huge games with Kobe Bryant, I don't see why it matters now. He's just too streaky and doesn't set a good example by playing half ass. Nice to see Bandwagoner3 pretend to know a lot about Shaq.

I'd also throw out that the Rockets were under .500 without Yao. Shaq and Yao are equal passers. The reason Yao doesn't get a lot of assists is because he doesn't get any cutters. I don't know why, but cutters in Van Gundy's offense are almost non-existent. Not to mention, Yao's supporting cast was much, much worse than Shaq's. Look at my above post. Shaq has almost no post game, the only way he gets the ball is if he out-muscles guy out of the paint. He can no longer do that offensively. Get him the ball ten feet from the basket, and he's lost. Get Yao the ball, it's an easy fadeaway, or a baseline spin move. Dude, I was NOT saying that Dampier was better. I was merely making a point -- that Shaq can be contained. Note that besides his "amazing" 16 points he also had 7 turnovers. 7, with a guy who supposedly gets not a lot of touches. Err, wrong. Quite, quite wrong. All through the season I was saying that this was how the teams were playing Yao -- a guy in front and a guy in back (I could show it to you if you really want it). This is exactly what Yao has faced. And Shaq had, what, 5 points? 2 field goals? Yaaa....right.

They always waited for Yao Ming to get the ball, and then close in around him. In game two, Shaq was double teamed before the ball could even get in to him. If they tried to get the ball inside to him, the person in front of Shaq would just pick it off and go the other way.
