The San Jose SaberCats today(January 12,2011) announced the additions of former 49ers' WR Otis Amey, along with DL George Hypolite, QB Kevin Lopina, WR Ed Berry, OL Kristien Poindexter, LB Tyrell Graham and LB Mario Reese. Per team policy, terms were not disclosed. The roster now stands at 33 players.

"I'm excited to see the roster taking form with 33 players now on roster," Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet said. "Otis was one of the most explosive playmakers in the league in 2008 and the additions that we made on both sides of the ball today are going to give us great depth this upcoming season."

    WR OTIS AMEY

Amey (5-11, 200) joins the SaberCats after spending the 2010 season with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League where he totaled 16 receptions for 148 yards. Prior to his time with the Mountain Lions, Amey served stints with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2009) and the British Columbia Lions (2008) of the Canadian Football League. Amey will be entering his third season in the AFL after playing for the Austin Wranglers in 2007 before joining the Cleveland Gladiators in 2008. For his career, he has totaled 201 receptions for 2,549 yards for 66 touchdowns. A threat in the return game, Amey averaged 18.1 yards on 68 kickoff returns with one returned for a touchdown. He set career-highs in 2008 in every receiving category, finishing with 112 receptions for 1,516 yards and 48 touchdown receptions.

"From watching Otis on film, he's an explosive playmaker," said SaberCats QB Mark Grieb. "We need people who are going to come in here and make plays and have shown that they have the ability to excel in this league and he's done that. He's basically been a star wherever he's played. I'm excited about having him here because as a quarterback you are only as good as the guys around you. He can only make me look better and not just for me, but for the team because I think we are putting together a nice receiving corps."

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005 out of Sacramento State, Amey returned a punt 75 yards in the season opener. He played in 11 games with the 49ers before joining the Atlanta Falcons in 2007.
