My 32" LCD LG HD tv took a crapshoot. The tv was manufactured in January 2007! I can't believe it took a nosedive. It doesn't turn on anymore (bulb?) unless I sit and let warm up. This tv was rated one of the best tv's and now I have lost faith on this "LG" brand. My gf has a 27" Sylvania which is still alive and kicking and she bought hers in 2005? I am looking at www.videoonly.com ads or also considering Fred Meyer. I don't really want to go bigger than a 36" and $375 is my max so far to spend.

I also did some research and found out that the LED tvs are more energy efficient than the LCD ones.

    Help? Thanks

Have your TV looked at before you buy a new one. A lot of times it can be a cheap, simple fix.

Before you give up on it, get it checked out. Hell, call LG and see if they'll fix it even though it's likely out of warranty. A lot of times they'll go out of their way for customer service.

But plasma lasts for a couple of days or 100000 hours, whichever comes last.

I agree. For the price, you can't beat the quality and screen size/refresh rates that Vizio's provide. I've had both my 50" Plasma and 32" LCD for going on 3 years, and haven't had a lick of problems with either.

In your price range you may have to go with a 720p set. Although if you look around you will find some 1080p deals out there. Like this one.

    Or this Toshiba

Also keep in mind that videoonly is a place to HAGGLE. They will usually match any price you find basically anywhere. So if buying local on a low budget, it's not a bad place to go. Note they have the worst return policy though as well. 30 days IN-STORE-CREDIT. This is once the box is opened. Who takes home a tv and doesn't open the box?

Vizio really? Seems like a cheap brand. My bedroom TV is my old 35" Sony Trinitron from 94'! Won't die, looks great. I would love to get a smaller HD monitor up there when it finally dies. Don't want to spend too much though.

Took a crapshoot? I don't think that means what you think it means.

I had a computer go out this weekend, electronics can be so frustrating. I just ordered a new computer today, I am pretty excited. So the good news is that you will be feeling pretty good when that new TV is sitting there with the Blazers kicking some ass in HD!

I tried all day today, and the power light is on and no visual. Its like it doesn't have enough charge to power up. Very frustrating indeed! I appreciate everyones input on this issue. My GF is shocked that the tv only lasted 4 years.

Plain old LCD has a backlight to project the pixels/colors to your eyes. The backlights get dimmer over time and eventually wear out.

I have a Vizio in the bedroom and I really like it. In the living room for watching sports and movies, it's a Panasonic Viero (Plasma). The Viera was highly rated by reviews.cnet.com for picture quality, etc. But I actually like the Vizio's picture better. It's newer, though, and that has a lot to do with it.

I've always had Sony, but Sony and Samsung are basically the same TV, at least in terms of how they are manufactured. Not so coincidentally, they are typically the two highest rated brands, although an LG 55" did take #1 last year.

Sorry it was made in january of 2008!

It looks like it will cost $50 for an authorized repair shop to take a look at it, and if the cost to repair it isn't bad then they will still apply the $50 towards the bill.
