Saw this in the LA Times today. I've noticed compton over the years, there had been black flight to outlying areas such as Palmdale and Riverside, and an INCREASE in crime in those areas. Compton is becoming more and more latino. Do you feel there is some kind of link? Interesting that all things almost considered equal, the only thing that has changed really is a huge decline in the black population. May not be the "popular" or politically correct thing to say, but it is what it is. Interesting the "black flight" is not mentioned in the article, as it seems to be the contributing factor to the drop in crime.
2 obvious reasons for the drop in killings. Latinos make smaller targets. Blacks have no gun skills, therefore they kill many innocent bystanders.
the change is pretty visable though. From bad, gang-banger ghettos to a safer community of the latino working class. I remember going there back in the day and it used to be a lot worse in the late 90s...now Compton isn't too bad. Maybe gentrification played a part too.
This is where I remember reading about Black Flight...from the economist, like 2 years ago. http://www.economist.com/node/10697106
My grandparents live in Riverside!!!!! Ah shit! And so do all my chollo cousins, tell those negroes to watch their backs!
Compton are famous for the huge Bloods and Crips rivalry... So less black people = less gang members = less gang killings + innocent bystanders = lower crime rate statistics?
