Would be a successful NBA coach? You have alot of choices of some guys that are always leading a national powerhouse like Roy Williams, Jim Calhoun or Bruce Weber, but would that lead to a successful NBA coaching career? Who do you think is the collegent coach best suited to coach at a professional level?
I think we will find out soon enough with Coach K whether he would be a good coach at the NBA level or not, when he takes on team USA, and it's roster of NBA talent. Jim Calhoun i think would be the best at the NBA level, simply because i think he would be the best at developing the talent of all the NBA coachs. I look at all the players that have come from that school, and are doing so well in the NBA like Richard Hamilton, Ben Gordon, Caron Butler, Okafor, and alot more, and he would be my pick.
Jim Calhoun would be a great NBA coach. Like valo said, he has coached so many successful players in the NBA:Ben Gordon: Can you say clutch? He is a great shooter and scorer and plays some D, but one hell of a clutch player that's for sure.Emeka Okafor: He has had some injury problems, but when he is healthy he is a terrific defender and his offensive game improved so much at his years under Calhoun.Ray Allen: Another great from UConn, maybe the best player to come out of UConn as of now. Purest stroke in the NBA and is a born leader. Caron Butler: This year was his break out year in Washington, but at his days at UConn he was a great performer, but was a streaky scorer. Imagine if he had stay for his junior year in 2004. That could have been one of the greatest UConn teams ever.Richard Hamilton: This guy had so many great performances at UConn it was unreal, he is in the top 5 all-time for 3's made. His all-time hihglight IMO was his game winning fade away against the Washington Huskies to win it and go to the Elite 8 (I think). He has also produced 3 good players who have been in the league for a while; Kevin Ollie, Donyell Marshall, and Jake Voshkul. All of these players were scouted, teached, and improved by Jim Calhoun and I think he could do the exact same thing in the NBA.
Probably being an MSU homer here, but I think Tom Izzo would make a good pro coach. Having said that I wouldnt want to see him leave East Lansing..
I'm thinking Coach Calhoun. He's a no non-sense guy that demands respect from his players, and he really knows the game. That and all the successful players he has coached (good point valo).
I agree with Hoopskidd. Tom Izzo would be a great NBA coach, although I hate MSU. But Jim Calhoun and Roy Williams are great picks too.
Who's the illinois coach tha took em to the finals last year. That guy seemed pretty good. Had all his players under control.
