    Spot on. Repped.

I can't think of another team in this league who could have sustained the injuries we've had and who would still be in playoff contention. KP deserves credit for the team he built and Nate deserves credit for his coaching job.

I think most teams don't have a number 2 as talented as Aldridge. or reserve guards like matthews capable of dropping huge numbers, or proven vets like Camby averaging 11+ rebounds a game, or Miller averaging 10/7 or whatever. Portland is deep enough to get by without Roy in a weakened western conference

Oden isn't going anywhere. He is our only chance at becoming an elite team during the next 3-5 years and management knows that imo.

Without Roy but with Camby, we were still a .500 team, but not a playoff team.

    Spot on, tlongII.

The team will let others determine his contract value and then match it. That way they won't be overpaying, but also not losing him for nothing.
    (fingers crossed)

I'd like to believe you are right, but I don't think management feels the same way

Oh I think they do feel the same way. Unless there is something catastrophic about his injury that they are not telling anyone they can't afford to abandon that plan.

I wake up to Sonny and Cher in the morning, and I have to go watch a groundhog crawl out of a box for my TV job. Something about shadows.

"Something catastrophic?" What ... something like 2 non-contact articular cartilage injuries with no known cause, one to each knee over the span of 2+ years, both requiring him to miss 2 full seasons of play? Or did you have something else in mind?

    Reality check:

Young players like Oden are rarely realistic about their own value. Being surrounded by syncophants since they were 15 or 16 doesn't help. It only takes *1* team dumb enough to give him what he wants - and then what do the Blazers do?

About the only way left for the Blazers to make this worse, would be to grossly over-pay for Oden. People say "we are already over the cap, so it doesn't matter." Wrong. If the league adopts some sort of hard cap, that argument will no longer apply.

Well, as usual there's no shortage of opinions around here. With this many, who knows, maybe one of them will turn out to be right...in which case we'll all claim it was ours. ;)
