Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations John Gregory announced today that the Arena Football League team has agreed to terms with Quarterback Matt Bassuener. He was one of nearly 100 players who attended the Barnstormers Free Agent Camp last month. Bassuener (6-2, 205) has three years of professional football experience, including two years playing Arena Football. As a rookie, he joined the Louisville Fire (af2) in 2008 where he won the starting job and led the team to a record of 8-8. The following season, Bassuener appeared in 8 games with the Amarillo Dusters (af2), completing 57% of his passes while throwing for 16 touchdowns. He also scored 5 touchdowns on the ground. Most recently, Bassuener spent the 2010 season playing for the Fairbanks Grizzlies (IFL). Bassuener attended and played college football at Georgetown University from 2003-07. He was originally recruited as a Defensive Back where he saw limited action his first two seasons. In 2006, he was converted to Quarterback, where he won the starting job for his final two seasons. For his career, Bassuener threw for 3,233 yards and 23 touchdowns, while also gaining over 400 yards rushing, averaging over 5 yards per rush. Bassuener is a native of Port Edwards, Wisconsin where he lettered in football, wrestling, and track. With the addition of Bassuener, the Barnstormers now have 32 players under contract for the 2011 season. Training Camp is just 5 weeks away!
