Former major league outfielder Gus Zernial, who played for three teams over 11 seasons, has died. He was 87. Zernial led the American League with 33 homers and 129 RBIs in 1951. He began that season with the White Sox, but spent most of that year with the then-Philadelphia Athletics after a trade. The Beaumont, Texas, native hit a career-best 42 homers with Philadelphia in 1953 and finished with a .265 batting average, 237 homers and 776 RBIs in his major league career, also playing for Detroit.
