Trail Blazers: Brandon Roy tells reporters he hopes to return this season

Q: When would you like to return? What's your goal?

A: I'm not going to put one on it. I'm going to really listen to the doctors this time and take it slower as far as when I go back on the court. Usually, I don't practice much before I go back out there. I usually do like one practice and then I play. This time I'm going to make sure I get more workouts in, more practices in, before I actually go play in an actual game.

Q: Do you think it will definitely be this season, though?

A: Yeah, I hope so. I hope it's this season. It's tough sitting out. My thing is just it's tough not doing anything. I just ask, "Can I jog? Can I do this?" No, not today. Just try to be patient. I don't like not doing too much. The biggest thing is I'm going to ask them every day, but I'm just going to try to be as patient as I can.

His knee problem isn't going to get better with rest. He just has a clean out surgery, which should only keep him out a month or two. There's no reason he shouldn't return this year. The real problem will be how he fits into this team.

If he can play, great. If he's lost something in his abilities then he'll adjust to his "new normal" to borrow from a doctor in Texas. Hopefully he'll have enough to be a major contributor. I'm still cautiously hopeful.

In the mean time I hope he's doing a lot of exercises to strengthen the muscles that support his knee like some of the doctors have been telling us. Hell, I hope the whole team is running through a lot of these types of exercises.

Roy will return the same time Oden returns. This June we will shock the league with a championship.

His knee-problems will definitely get better with rest. Not resting enough certainly hasn't helped his knees in the past. I don't want him back this year, he should aim for training-camp.

Off the bench he will be a nice scoring threat. Exactly what we need.

I'll respectfully disagree. Rest doesn't heal mensicus cartilage that isn't there. The first game in which he plays significant minutes, he can expect bone inflammation, fluid (which will likely have to be drained) and soreness. It doesn't matter if that game is two months from now or two years from now.

Maxiep, did your picture just get bigger? I mean, it seems BIGGER than an hour ago. Or is that my imagination?

    Fuck!!

Now I look again after that post and it's back to the size it was. Are you playing with me? (In a clean way, of course.)

The only thing we can hope from roy is a spot up shooter. If he drives to the basket at all, bench him

I agree on the "clean out" comment and lets move this process along. If he can come back and play at a "decent" level then we deal with that. Conversely, if he comes back and then after a few weeks or somewhat longer his knees are back to where they were (bad) then we have taken IMO a huge step toward medical retirement.

unfortunately that is the case maxie and you've nailed it, hence my post just above about this very possibly being a big and necessary step toward medical retirement

Hopefully Roy can adjust to his new role on the team, the team can adjust to his new role on the team, and Roy can improve our depth, whether as a starter or a reserve. I honestly doubt that Roy is 'done', but I doubt anyone knows. It's just a matter of finding out what he can and can't do, and how many minutes he can and can't do it. Good luck Brandon.

There is no doubt in my mind that he'll return this season. My guess is that he'll be back by mid March at the latest.

In other words, "if Miller gets traded, I will be back. I have been watching, and the team is winning, and having a lot of fun doing it. I need to come in and slow things down so we start playing games in the 70's again"
