CelticBalla, I bet the problem with the leather ball was some vegetarian organization asked them to change it. And my dad's usually right about things that people don't know and he only says stuff if it's from a good sourse so I'm sure they're just discussing that now.. my brother heard it too. I just wasn't there because I was posting, lol. You can say what you want about him though, I don't like him much. Hmm, I went and looked at my basketball and realized that I use a composite ball too, LOL!
I think this new ball looks a lot cooler, but if they could keep it leather, it would be even better.
The worst part is lowered shooting percentages, they already are lowered enough, what's gonna happen to all those soft touch shooters?
A new ball will hardly lower your shooting percentage over time, it just takes getting used to at first.

If the NBA indeed is going to switch, I'm sure they would have sent a memo to all the teams, and the teams would have notified the players. They could then use the balls during the summer to get used to them, plus they will have all of training camp and the preseason to get used to the ball. It isn't a big issue.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The worst part is lowered shooting percentages, they already are lowered enough, what's gonna happen to all those soft touch shooters?</div>Um...not really. Actually, the FG% has really been up then, say, 10 years ago.And as everyone else as has said, they're the best in the world. If they can't get used to it, then they don't deserve to be there.
I don't understand the move at all, but if it turns out to make that big a difference.. I don't know.I really don't understand the point of this move, the benifits of it, or any changes it will make to the league besides slight negative ones.David Stern must know something we don't
Like other people have said, the players are the best there is, they should be able to get used to a new ball. I dont really understand the move, maybe Stern just thinks it looks cool like the rest of us It didnt seem to have too much of an effect on the All-Star game
I dont know why there are going to use a ball that hurts your shooting. Its know fun to watch a game where people miss a lot more.
I hope that this doesnt hurt the game. This was one of basketballs most exciting seasons in my opinion and i dont want to see that go down the drain because of a dumb ball. In my opinion, if its not broken, dont fix it. There was no need for this to happen unless the NBA wants less scoring in the NBA...

LOL
It amazes me at how many people still think a new ball hurts shooting percentages in any significant manner...

If a player is adversely affected by the texture on a basketball, he needs to work harder because it's not that hard to get used to a new ball. High school players can do that. Anyone who has ever played with a flat ball or on a dead court knows what I'm talking about. It may take a bit to get used to the difference, but in the end...it doesn't matter....

I think the argument is that it really doesn't matter, and no one knows why David Stern is changing it. I guess it's one of those "Change for a change situations"
