Brandon Roy: I'll never be 100%. Happy with 6th man role.

    Just saw this on Twitter:

Brandon Roy on 95.5-FM, said: "I don't think medically, I can ever get back to 100 percent. But I can get to a high level of basketball."

Brandon Roy said: "I would be comfortable with a sixth man role," if that's what it came to when he came back.

A very expensive 6th man at that.

If he's ok with it, he could have a role here. Maybe he can renegotiate the contract so the team can get other players.

Glad to hear it, because I don't think he's better than Wes right now, and I wouldn't bench Wes or Batum for Roy. If Brandon can come in and provide some scoring off the bench, that would be great. Although I would really look to trade him if they can find anyone who would take his contract. Maybe someone like Dallas would take a chance on him to give them some extra punch. We can dream, right?

    Roy interview with Canzano

Anyone listen to the interview? Roy with another candid Interview. He doesn't think he will medically be 100% again, however he believes he can play at a high level and so do the doctors; wants to be an All-Star. He would be comfortable in a 6th man role if it made the team the better. Seems optimistic about the future of the Blazers health. Finished the interview saying Oden is the answer to a lot of the questions if he can come back healthy and stay healthy. Crapzano tried to ask some leading questions, but Roy was a professional about it.

This is pretty tasty lemonade given all the rotten lemons we've been given this season.

Canzano put him the GM chair as well about what Young center he would want. He ended it by saying if Oden comes back and is able to stay healthy, he is the answer to the questions.

If he's able to accept the new realities his health has created then there's a chance this movie doesn't end as a total tragedy. It will be interesting to see if he can transform himself into more of a catch and shoot guy or learns to play off the ball somewhat effectively.

I hope he can do this, but he has also made previous comments about getting Greg more involved, and other things. It will be interesting to see what he says and what he does when it is time to put up or shut up

This thread seems better. So he wants to be an all-star and will be a sixth man? This should be fun

After the Miller vs Roy battle at the beginning of Miller's Blazer tenure, fans seem to think Roy would not be accepting to a new "role" on the team. Based from his latest interview, he wants to be able to contribute and help the team the best way he can. If it is the best decision for the team with him as the 6th man, he would be comfortable with it. However, if he feels like he can play at a high level and so does coach, he will start if it is best for the team.

When I first read the thread title, I thought it meant that he wouldn't be 100% happy with a 6th man role...

Chris Gatling was an All Star even though he was coming off the bench for the Mavericks.

If I remember correctly, Roy talked about chemistry issues with Oden because as a team, they were not used to incorporating him in the offense yet. Roy has always been supportive of Greg and has shown in plenty of interviews. It's probably best if you stay out of this conversation because we all know your MO when it comes to Roy. Your material is becoming tiresome, don't get you get bored with it?

Roy also talked about the advice he has been receiving from vets across the league. He realizes there are adjustment periods throughout one's career, where after 5 years can be much different than your previous years. Said he can look at it as if it is another Rookie year for his next stage of his career.

Seeing as how that is literally impossible under the CBA that governs his contract, I doubt it! But hell, as long as we can build up an impossible strawman in order to criticize Roy in the future for doing something he can't do, I say go for it. WEEEEEEEE!

Great news . . . jsut what I many of us wanted to hear.

Some may question his intentions, but if anything Roy has generally been too honest with the media. I believe him.

I wasn't aware it was impossible, so I wasn't trying to create a strawman. But thanks for being an ass

    Re: Roy interview with Canzano

Hopefully Roy gets it. Who cares whether he starts or comes off the bench when he gets back. If he is good enough to contribute, he will get his minutes. If he can play better than Wes (even being less than 100%), he will find his way back to the starting rotation.

The fact that he is willing to be the 6th man to start is the key. I wish it was he is willing to come off the bench and forget even designating him the 6th man . . . but I'll take Roy accepting 6th man, for now.
