Man Christopher Nolan got shafted....again. He has been nominated for Best Director by the Directors Guild of America three different times(Memento, The Dark Knight, Inception) and yet zero times for the Academy. David O. Russell's nomination is a joke. The Fighter is predictable and uninspired, and many other directors turned down the screenplay including Darren Aronofsky. While not everyone is a huge fan of Inception, it's an original piece of work that not only tries to please visually but intellectually as well. I also thought Leo should have been nominated but whatever.
I feel like Leo should have at least been nominated for Shutter Island, because he was fantastic in that movie. Christopher Nolan not getting a nom, I agree, is an absolute joke. Personally, I'm hoping Inception or Black Swan gets the Best Picture nod, but I'm sure it's going to go to The Social Network (which I still need to see). We shall see though.
Apparently The King's Speech is the Social Network's only competitor. The Social Network swept every precursor award except for one which went to The King's Speech. If I had to break down the percentages on who was going to win I'd break it down like this. The Social Network - 78 percent The King's Speech - 20 percent Black Swan - 2 percent
Have any of you seen The King's Speech? Is it really that good? I read the plot line and have absolutely no interest in watching it at all.
Supposedly Firth is good in it but there is something to be said about an actor having a crutch such as a stutter, mental handicap, etc. The movie looked like award bait from the get-go.
Exactly. Ever since Forrest Gump films like this have always caught the attention of the academy. Not saying Forrest Gump is a terrible film but it did win over Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption when basically it's idiot's guide to America 1950-1980 version. I have not seen King's Speech, but I fully intend to, and from what I'm hearing over on RT they say it's predictable yet a heartwarming period piece.
