The worst person in the world is Michael Bay. He is systematically ruining all my childhood memories. He must be stopped.
Ya think? I can imagine her next move would be to say, "I'm willing to serve in her stead...". This woman has no shame.
The Republican media is aflutter again. They don't want Giffords replaced in her committee assignments, in order to weaken the Democrats on those committees. There are 2 issues: 1) Should the decision be made rationally or emotionally? It's being made emotionally, with all the name-calling, like worst person in the world. 2) Should she be replaced until she returns? I read an article saying that when you're shot in the head, it's 50-50 whether you make it to the hospital alive. If you do, it's 50-50 whether you'll be permanently impaired, vs. taking a couple of years to regain your coordination enough to think and speak clearly. So Giffords will be incapable of representing her district for at least a year. The answers are 1) definitely yes to rationality 2) yes, but I would bow to the customs of the House.
I don't know the regulations for this, but if there's a provision for the governor appointing a representative for Rep. Giffords' post until she can come back to work, I don't necessarily have a problem with that. That said, this is about the opposite of behavior and customs that happened when Ted Kennedy had seizure after seizure, brain surgery (iirc) and terminal brain cancer and kept his committee leadership for almost a year, and his seat for over a year until his death.
The current controversy isn't over whether to appoint a replacement in Congress as a whole. It's over whether to temporarily take her off one or two of her most important committees. She'd still be a voting Representative in the House. Trouble is, the rules say you have to be there to vote. No absentee voting. Everyone knew Kennedy would die in a few months, while her problem is open-ended and may go on and on. Also, he was a 40-year institution and she isn't.
“Gabby has always been one of the most active members on the Armed Services Committee, and Rep. Sanchez wants to make sure HASC Democrats preserve her voice until the congresswoman has returned,” Sanchez’s Press Secretary Caroline Hogan told TheDC. “Rep. Sanchez simply inquired whether a proxy could represent the Congresswoman on the Committee at Rep. Giffords’ request. That way, Gabby’s legislative priorities and seniority would be preserved until her return. Any other interpretation of her question is ludicrous.” Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2011/01/25/r...-from-armed-services-committee/#ixzz1CCoW2CTg
She's a moderate-to-conservative Democrat, which is why Republicans have gone easy on her (in addition to trying to silence the anger they deserve for years of hate talk). They know that a replacement will probably be more liberal, so they are pushing in their media, no replacement.
You're right, I sugarcoated my post. I just congratulated Maxiep for turncoating to the other side, and now I find that you, too, have seen the light. This is indeed a red-letter evening in history which will not be soon forgotten. http://sportstwo.com/threads/177711...o-MSNBC-show?p=2523289&viewfull=1#post2523289
