Deleting posts is close to the line between moderating and being on a power trip. Typically, a mod should leave the "post", but edit the content and give an explanation as to why the content was deleted. That way, things just don't disappear, and people aren't as confused, since they can always know who edited it, and PM the mod if they would like a further explanation.

    Just a suggestion, though!

You know what though, there's no way to make people happy in this situation. If I leave the posts alone, people bitch about the forum being all about drama, and that nobody is doing anything to stop the problem. If I edit the posts, it derails the thread because everyone wonders why all these posts were edited, and they want to know what was in the post. If I delete the posts entirely, the people who posted bitch and complain, and the thread gets derailed because everyone wants to know what was said. There's no win here.

With that said, I'm tired of watching every thread that Mixum starts turn into a slap fight. Mixum posts something, someone makes a smartass comment, he responds and claims to be the victim of a bias, and then it just goes down hill from there. What do you guys want? Do you want to talk Blazers basketball or do you want to sit around and gossip like a bunch of old ladies? I've tried every tactic that I know. If I don't edit enough, I'm a terrible mod. If I edit posts, I'm a terrible mod. If I delete posts, I'm a terrible mod. I guess I'm just a terrible mod, eh?

Seriously, I just want people to at least be civil. You don't have to agree with each other, you don't have to like each other, but please just keep things civil.

Gladys, that answer is obvious, dear. ;)

It's a thankless task. I've done it before, and it's much better to be just a regular member of a community, IMO.

IMO, the problems get a lot easier if obvious trolling is just dealt with. Everything you just described only happens after the obvious trolling has already taken place.

To recap after this thread has now been derailed, I asked hollinger a few questions during his chat today.

    1. He says he thinks we make playoffs unless we trade and get future assets back.

    2. Thinks we can get 6th seed and that denver/Utah could fall out with trades. Graze and rockets get in.

    3. Devin Harris is the guy who blazers want to replace miller. Will need a 3rd team to get it done. I think nets have to make melo deal for this tonhave a chance.

    4. If not Harris, we will get a real bottom of barrel type player like Jeff Teague from Atlanta.

    5. Andre miller most likely to be traded while camby/pryz unlikely. nothing certain though.

Ridnour was mediocre as a Sonic. McMillan wouldn't want to coach him again.

You have learned the cycle of life, grasshopper. Now dry clean my shirt. Hurry hurry chop chop.

Normally if a post has nothing but off subject to thread or insults in it then it's deleted, which it can be soft so other mods see it or hard so there is no sign of it to anyone, but if the post has part off subject/insult and part that is about the thread and not insult then a mod normally just edits out the 'bad' part and leaves a explanation.

I maybe a little late to this party.. was in a meeting all day. And didnt read the responses below this yet. But my deal with deleting posts, is people would constantly break rules, and attack people and so forth, and still get there message across. There was literally no ramifications for continuing to break rules. If you delete the whole post it shows that if you waste your time to type out a personal attack, then you wasted your time trying to get the message you wanted, out. If someone doesnt break the rules, their message will get across just fine. Just my opinion.

I agree, BUT this is all I typed......

It was the third post in this thread and I typed "It's all down hill from here"

Then around the 10th post after MIXUM cried about ^That^ post I did a smiley face That's it!

You were not commenting on the topic. You were commenting on the poster. I don't think it's that complicated, man.

Stop commenting on MIXUM. Either comment on what he posts or don't comment on his posts at all.

We're tired of people derailing threads and devolving them into pissing matches when there is basketball to be discussed.

I actually wasnt referring to your post and hadnt seen it, my post was more of and all encompassing post to why I personally (would) just do the deleting of the whole post, but this one here isnt my forum, so I dont edit much in here, unless stuff stays for a long time that probably should be edited.

It seems as if half of this board is some sort of S2 moderator right now. Global mod, normal mod, Admin, Producer, Jester, etc. I can't keep it all straight. Now that posts are literally being erased, and not just edited, things are a bit on edge.

Once the mod civil war starts regarding how to mod, things will get interesting.

Probably is time to start scouting for a back-up plan, fellow underlings.

    This never ends well.
