Man, I wish people who used to argue, "Yao doesn't have an unfair advantage in the voting due to being from China!" would tell me if they still think that or not... Ed O.
I agree that the entire Yao thing is out of hand in terms of the internet voting. That said, clearly, the center in the West should be ... ????? One could make a case for Marcus Camby, prior to his injury. The center position is crap right now in the West.
Hey, Yao was an All Star once. That means he should be an All Star every year. That's why he got 5 billion votes. Fair is fair.
good thing no D are played in these things cause watching Durant or Melo guard Amare would be kinda bad.
I'd venture to guess his quickness would help negate their advantage, moreso than their size would negate his advantage. And I'd also venture to guess his shots would be much more higher percentage.
The funny thing is, Yao doesn't get THAT many votes. It's usually around the 2 million mark. People just don't vote much. If Shaq were still in his prime and playing for the Lakers, he would destroy Yao in votes. I'm pretty sure Dwight Howard got more votes as well. The China thing IS an advantage, and it's pretty silly, but if people in this country would actually vote, Yao wouldn't get the spot.
It's simple. Have an Electoral College. The fans vote for electors. The Supreme Court chooses the electors who represent the candidate who got fewer votes. The electors meet and Yao loses. Elect All-Star starters the way it was done in 2000, and Yao is catnip.
This is actually a pretty good point. If LMA makes the reserves (and is healthy) he might actually get some decent playing time.
Yao Ming, IIRC, started the all-star game in his rookie year in 2002/2003 by being voted in over Shaq.
I knew a Chinese kid named Chad. I also knew Chinese brothers who were given English names by their parents--the names being William and Bill. Yes. But that's neither here nor there.
