Anderson Silva Avoiding Talking About Vitor Belfort Heading Into UFC 126

Pound-for-pound great and UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson "The Spider" Silva is going to attempt to break his own record of most consecutive UFC title defenses by taking on fellow Brazilian Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort in the main event of UFC 126 this Saturday. In a recent interview with Portal do Vale Tudo (props to Fighters Only for the transcription), Silva spoke about facing his former teammate and explained why he stayed in Brazil to train for the fight as opposed to training at the Black House satellite gym in Los Angeles.

"It's better to train in Brazil near family and friends at home," said Silva. "There [in LA] the things are very hard, it takes one or two hours to commuting from home to the gym by car, it's very complicated. Here everything is nearer, if you need a doctor is closer, so that's it."

"The Spider" told PVT that he is preparing for his old training partner in the same way that he prepares for every fight and that he is viewing the bout as just another title defense.

"A fight is a fight. I will do my work and the best will win," he asserted. "We're preparing to fight. It's a fight like all the others, one more opponent, he's got the credentials to fight for the belt so let's go there."

Ever since Silva and Belfort were first scheduled to fight, back in April of last year at UFC 112, the tension between the two (especially from Silva) has remained almost palpable. Despite the fact that Silva seems to hold some ill-will towards Belfort, he would rather not go the Chael Sonnen route and spew trash talk, opting instead to do his talking in the cage.

"I'm preparing to fight, I don't have much to speak about Vitor," Silva said. "I think that I will let people see what is, what isn't, what may happen."

Silva and Belfort will square off this Saturday, February 5th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada in the main event of UFC 126.
