Sure there would be Blazers without the intense fan support you're talking about ... it'd be exactly the same as it was about 3 or 4 years ago when the Rose Garden was half-full and Paul Allen was losing 100 million dollars a year.
OK, what is he doing wrong? Bill Walton said: Basically quit the NBA, move to Hawaii, lose a lot of weight & meditate... Umm yeah... Walton is a nice guy & maybe he knows a thing or two about having a frail body and that is why he's suggesting that Oden take the road he took because he found it useful for himself. His opinion as a championship winning NBA center certainly has more clout than angry message board posters. However, you are right that Walton is not a doctor & has a pretty unique lifestyle & mindset. What works for Walton doesn't work for everyone. I don't think anyone would have said Oden was rehabbing properly if he flew off to Hawaii & just chilled out. Here I think we get to the root of the issue. You're mad at Greg Oden for being injury prone while at the same time extremely jealous of another team's player, that possibly could have been ours. Sounds pretty spoiled. You know OKC has plenty of fan openings, you could go be a Durant homer to your hearts content. As Durant gets better, I am sure there will be plenty of babies who can't handle the fact that we missed out on him and take their anger & control freakishness out on Oden, because they can't handle that they're not getting their way and need someone to blame for it. Grow Up.
I'm mad at greg oden for continuing bad behavior that leads to constant injury. i think ive made that quite clear. your entire post is nonsense. i'm a blazers fan. not an oden or durrant fan. why would i be an apologist for oden when he has cost my team millions and not done anything but hurt himself. if its "being spoiled" that makes me want the blazers to win, then i guess i'm spoiled. youre a fool.
exactly my point. had that kept up, the blazers would leave. blazers fans keep the team alive, thus blazers fans have more than enough reason to be upset with players who are not earning their check. is this whole site nothing but greg oden sack-swingers?
not that its 100%, but an awful diet and love of partying is what i am referring to need to treat your body right to be a successful pro athlete
Brandon Roy is the primary reason the fans came back. Paul Allen got excited after the 2006 draft, took the team off of the market, and the fans started to come back in large part because of Roy having a ROY season. For that, he takes more abuse on this board than any other player. I wouldn't get too riled up about people's opinions here. Most of them will turn on a player on a dime. As for Oden, this board and the other one where we migrated from has always been fiercely Oden. It's odd, because I've seen every other player have posters change their opinions toward them, but with Oden, it's either you praise Oden or make excuses for him, or you will be labeled an 'Oden Hater'. I've never quite seen anything like it on a sports forum, especially for a guy who rarely plays, admits he wasn't taking care of himself, yet seems to be falling back into bad habits. For questioning him, you're the bad person, or so it appears to me regarding the response I get to my honest opinions and concerns with Greg.
Speaking of opinions, I remember posters calling Oden injury prone as early as his rookie year with most posters listing all the injuries, saying how they weren't related and it was unfair to call him injury prone. Like with this thread, those opinions about Oden being injury prone may not have been backed up by a lot of facts back then . . . but those posters calling it back then and taking a lot of shit for it turned out to be right. Sometimes posters are very astute and an honest hunch by a die hard fan is not something that should always just be tossed to the side.
see the video posted earlier. his junk food diet is fairly well known. he himself has stated he was drinking/partying too much. i dont have any idea how many days a week he is out, but the point remains the same. seeing him out even once is a red flag. end of the world? no. but a red flag that he has not changed he previously unsuccessful behavior. enough reason for blazer fans to say "WTF."
Tell me about it. The funny thing was, every single one of us, so far as I remember, wanted Oden over Durant, even after we starting questioning his apparent fragility. Clearly that opinion has changed for many posters after 4 years of this, but it's not like those of us questioning his durability were "Oden Haters". I do wonder who is the last defender of Greg-Oden-Isn't-Injury-Prone Island. Is anybody left? maxiep was one of the generals there. Still keeping that dream alive?
Nope. There's practically an iron-clad lease that Paul Allen would have a helluva time getting out of. The real point is that with or without Blazers fan support, Paul Allen has dumped a large portion of his personal fortune into this team to keep it in Portland. He pays Oden's salary whether you want to admit it or not and the bottome lines is that Oden is an adult who is not prohibited from imbibing alcoholic drinks, dancing in clubs or staying up past 9:30 at night
are you serious bro. i know who writes the check. get past the literal aspect of that. and i as a fan am not prohibited from thinking his party is costing the team. and its not unreasonable for blazer fans to be pissed about his lack of commitment to being a successful NBA player
So you just found out he liked junk food from that video where he's shopping with his tubby friend? Isn't this a long standing issue with Oden? Don't you have more evidence than a video you just saw 5 minutes ago? What kind of junk food is he well known for? What exactly did he state? So you don't know if he parties a lot?
What's more likely: having one leg longer than the other leading to mechanical breakdowns in the body or eating a cheesburger and having some drinks? If Greg were having heart issues or was so obviously fat that it was putting massive extra strain on his joints then his diet and drinking habits would probably be front and center, but we're talking about a guy with injury issues that go all the way back to sixth grade for him when he had hip surgery. For that reason I'm inclined to believe that there's probably not much correlation between the cartilage in his knees chipping and cracking and his choice about what he puts in his mouth. When a player fails (or their body fails them) it's awfully simple to turn that physical failing into a moral one; if he's morally deficient then it's easier to criticize him and be angry with him.
i have read in the past about his diet being cheeseburgers and fries (sorry i dont have the direct quote so you wont accept this, but i dont have record of everything he's ever said). his diet is something that has been a topic of conversation with oden before. used often to illustrate "how much of a kid he is" i'll try and find a link for you. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2010/09/greg-oden-drinking-30-pounds/1 in this article greg states "It just kept going through my head that I have to change something." this quote is in regards to him not drinking. if not drinking alcohol causes you to lose 30lbs, you are drinking a lot of alcohol. i dont know how often he parties, no. maybe he goes out every night. but if its once per year, and that is contributing to his problem with getting healthy than its too much...
you could be right. it could have nothing to do with his diet and im wrong, but do you see my point that it is reasonable cause for concern if he is going back to a behavior he himself felt was harmful?
That's a recap of a Quick article... I think the same one that people in the thread have already been arguing over It's a case of mixing up what a writer writes and what is actually said and meant by the athlete. I have a friend who has given up drinking (for the most part) and lost over 40 pounds... and he's about 5'9" or so. But he's also been working out like a mother and eating much better and even if he'd kept drinking he probably would have lost a lot of the weight. Attributing the full 30 pounds to alcohol consumption, in Oden's case, doesn't seem correct to me. Ed O.
Maybe you and I define "reasonable cause for concern" differently. If he decided to make radical changes to his lifestyle I would support that decision because it would indicate to me that he's in a good place mentally or that he is taking his career/rehab very seriously, but on the other hand I don't see much harm in a 23 year old going out to the club to listen to music and have some drinks while he's in the very early stages of a year long rehab process. In fact for his mental well being it's probably a good thing that he's able to go out and take his mind off another disappointing season cut short by injury.
Ok, lets cut to the chase. Answer these two questions, yes or no only. Spare all the bullshit lengthy explanations, and lines and lines of text that are irrelevant to the questions at hand. Simpy state yes or no like this Ex: 1.YES 2. YES then, /post 1. Is Greg Oden injury prone? yes or no? 2. Is Greg Oden a bust? yes or no? This should provide a lot of insight into all these replies.
