I dunno, whenever he is going down into the "trenches", it kind of seems all for show at times. Like when he was in haiti, it kind of seems disingeniune. In the real world you get your ass beat

I'd still like to see video. Watching a reporter get his fanny whipped might be fun.

My guess is at the rate this is going, Mubarek is going to end up being hanged within a few days. He had his chance to end it non violently, now it has gone to violence, and now most likely, he will end up dead in his greed for power.

Christine Amampour and some FoxNews guy also claim to be harassed and fearful for their safety.

Where do these idiots think they are? Israel? The US?

You're in the middle of riots with a 3rd-world populace leading the charge. Did they expect Western reporters to be praised and feted?

My guess is that Obama mandating that Mubarak step down, after a 30-year relationship as a quasi-ally with the USA during which the USA was Mubarak's meal ticket, was not going to end well. Obama should have kept his mouth shut after Mubarak said he would not run for re-election to see if the riots would calm down. Instead, his administration immediately announced that was not good enough, and now both sides are entrenched in an all-or-nothing battle.

What a foreign policy disaster. Apparently the White House Press pool put in a complaint with Gibbs this morning to try and ask Obama questions.

    Request denied, of course.

Good luck using this against Obama.

Nobody in Egypt, on any of the many different sides, gives a rat's ass what Obama and America say or do.

The vast majority of them despise us and our long history of interference in their country and our support of the tyrants who have ruled it.

There have been reports of organized assaults against journalists. Aside from those mentioned here, they include NBC, Al-Jazeera, ABC, and a British broadcaster (not sure if it's BBC). According to Richard Engle of NBC, these are not "caught in the crossfire", they are deliberate targets at journalists, regardless of nationality, who are trying to get the story out. At least one journalist is missing, some were held for hours, some severely assaulted, cameras stolen or smashed. The assaults are by the organized pro-Mubarak thugs, not the protesters.

I am not sure why these supposed hyper-constitution lovers find something funny about assaults on free press.

As for Mr. Cooper, whatever else can be said about him, at least he is there trying to report, instead of sitting in a snug studio inventing apocalyptic fantasies about China taking over New Zealand.

Personally, I oppose assaults on journalists, regardless of their nationality or sexual orientation or size of ego, or whether they are liberal, conservative, socialist, apolitical, or whathaveyou.

I don't want to see any reporters attacked even if they're wrong in their political views. Their safety is more important that should be the main priority. Let the aristocrats deal with this mess. Or increase security and whatever.

Increased security when they are walking through the streets of thousands of angry muslim protestors?

The thing is, I think many of the reporters just forget who they're dealing with. They have a false sense of security and are foolishly putting their lives on the line dealing with crazies.

The army wasn't really doing anything in the Anderson vid. Either do something or "increase security" by not putting them in harm's way like that.

I'm not a Liberal so don't worry you don't have to tell me about their false sense of security. If I was a reporter I would completely expect to be attacked in that country, etc. But my point is if you are going to report from where the mob is at, at least have the army protect you.

The army isn't going to protect foreign journalist. They don't really want any coverage of what's going on to begin with. They maybe should hire private security but even in a mob setting you can't do that.

Yeah I wouldn't count on the army, but they should do something because we're talking about human lives. You don't have to like the foreign journalist or whatever but don't let people hurt each other. It could have turned worse.
