TORONTO - It's been a record day at the box office for the UFC. The mixed martial arts organization planned to sell 42,000 tickets for its UFC 129 show on April 30 at the Rogers Centre. And it sold those in the first day of pre-sales Thursday. As a result, the UFC is putting more tickets on the market to ensure that there are still some available when the general public gets a crack at them Saturday Members of the UFC Fight Club had first crack at the tickets, which ranged in price from $50 to $800. On Friday, another pre-sale is set for those who subscribe to the UFC newsletter. The previous UFC attendance record was UFC 124 in Montreal, which drew 23,152 to the Bell Centre in December.
Re: UFC Toronto show sells more than 40,000 They absolutely crushed their ambitious prediction of 35,000+ tickets being sold TOTAL. At this rate the Rogers Centre could sell another 30,000. 60,000+ fans would be EPIC.
Re: UFC 129 Toronto show sells more than 40,000 tickets in an hour Pride had 70,000. Maybe the UFC can match it?
Re: UFC 129 Toronto show sells more than 40,000 tickets in an hour Keep in mind the tickets have not even gone on sale to the public, so anyone who wants a seat but isn't interested in paying $80 to be a Fight Club member or doesn't know about any pre-sale still hasn't had a crack at tickets yet. The demand could be there for another 42,000. Plus the UFC has hardly advertised this event. I bet casual fans don't even know Randy/Machida is on the card as well.
Re: UFC 129 sells 42,000 tickets in the first hour of pre-sale, likely to expand seat Question: Wouldn't it ruin the UFC experience since a lot in attendance will barely be able to see whats going on? That's what makes UFC viewings better than WWE ones
Re: UFC 129 sells 42,000 tickets in the first hour of pre-sale, likely to expand seat apparently everyone who bought tix and were fight club members purchased dozens of tix each so they could sell them off on websites and such, so it probably going to be easy to find overpriced tix soon online
Re: UFC 129 sells 42,000 tickets in the first hour of pre-sale, likely to expand seat i thought they were going to sell 45000 tix in total
Re: UFC 129 sells 42,000 tickets in the first hour of pre-sale, likely to expand seat ^ They held some back for the public sale on the 12th. They are going to make more tickets available but Tom Wright says 50,000 total would be "pushing it".
Re: UFC 129 sells 42,000 tickets in the first hour of pre-sale, likely to expand seat This happens at every event and is sponsored by the UFC who are officially partnered with StubHub, aka scalper central. There are already tickets on StubHub going for up to $4000. The cheapest upper deck (500-level) ticket on StubHub is $139, which is nearly triple the price it sold for this morning.
Re: UFC 129 sells 42,000 tickets in the first hour of pre-sale, likely to expand seat To be honest even when you have good seats you still wind up watching the screens. Frankly it is hard to watch the fight live. You can see them when they are standing in the middle of the cage but aside from that there is always something in the way--the ref, a camera man, a ring post--and when they are on the mat you can't really see shit. Everyone winds up watching the big screens. Supposedly the Rogers Center, aside from the main jumbotron, will have a couple dozen big high-res screens all around the building. That being said the atmosphere at a big fight is amazing. Every bit as good as an NBA or NHL game, except in some respects better because the crowd isn't partisan and can flip depending on the way the fight is going.
