so really simple question, who do they mean when they say so and so fighter has x reach? is that like a measure of how far someone can reach when throw a straight punch? or is it a measure of wingspan? ( I am thinking its this cause Jones has like a stated reach of 84" that's 7ft). Do they count the reach of kicks?
Pretty sure it's wingspan. Seems like most of the fighters are around 70" to 80" which is normal for people around 6'
Wingspan, fingertip to fingertip, and it isn't really a good system. You can have a wide back and short arms and have an equal wingspan of someone with a narrow frame and long arms. In boxing you'll often see reach defined as the distance from the end of the fist to the armpit. Makes more sense.
