Mathews/Batum are both still really young. There both great defenders and are a little inconsistent on offense. MAthews has been playing with horrible ankles for over a month because we can't afford to rest him and the big knock on Batum since we drafted him was his ability to become passive on the offensive end.
Neither one of them is untouchable but you don't trade either one of the unless you get back a top 5 player at PG or C, since there is no way in hell that's happening they are pretty much untouchable.

Good thing Matthews is only in his second season and Batum is only 22.

Well, none of those guys ever averaged 15+ ppg in their NBA careers (as Wesley is currently doing).

But I've heard that the season is over.

The only player in those 4 that have the potential of Batum was Webster but Webster was nowhere near the defender Batum is. Were a small market franchise that can't just up and trade these players because if we screw up we can just sign someone from FA in the summer that is just as good. FA do not like going to small markets and when they do the small market has to overpay. So were stuck with trying to develop talent and once they start showing some inconsistency the "fans" jump all over the management to magically turn that player into someone who is a star in this league. That just doesn't happen, were the blazers not the lakers who can turn crap into Pau Gasol because the GM of the grizzlies wanted to suck up to the lakers.

You show me where Travis Outlaw, Martell Webster, or Sergio Rodriguez put up numbers consistently like Matthews has this season and then I'll be impressed. Until then you can just keep making up some more hyperbole.

Batum and Matthews have been 10x more effective this season than any of those players you just named. Go fish.

Excuse me? You were the ones that was pro-Webster over Batum. The Webster threads were you...

He played 40 minutes, so those stats are less adequate than they seem. For box score performance last night (besides the obvious, Aldridge and Rudy), look at Mills in his 12 minutes.

Mills was the reason we almost lost this game. I don't want to look at him.

He's had 9 so so games. The rest are strong, and lo-and-behold, good consistent games. Not bad for a guy who is usually a 3rd option on offense.

Guh, anyone know how to format this?

I swear, if somebody posted "the grass is green", it would provoke a debate here!

I doubt there are 15 players in the entire league who deserve to be considered "untouchable".

Well, the grass being green isn't whats being presented here.

I just realized what Mixum is. He's the Frank Burns of our message board. That makes HCP the Hawkeye Pierce, barfo the Henry Blake, mediocre man as the hot lips hulihan and...well, it would take too much thought to think of the rest of the characters.

It really pisses me off when someone says ALL grass is green. In the early morning, it has white frost on it. In Kentucky, it's blue because of horse track manure. In southern California it's mostly brown because it's so scraggly and parched, all you see is dirt between the blades. What a gross overgeneralization to insist ALL grass is green. Improve your act.

I watched the Toronto game last night and Batum barely touched the ball. The few times he did he played within the offense. You can't expect a guy to blow up every night if has no plays run for him.

Even then he still did a bunch of little things that impacted the game. Including a clutch 3 and a reverse dunk in the 4th that halted Toronto's big run and gave momentum back the Blazers. A 22 year old to bring those kind of intangibles on an off-scoring night is huge. As far as I'm concerned he is untouchable unless an all-star or top 3 pick is offered.

As far as Mathews goes, I've never seen anyone say he was untouchable. But I'm glad we got him. If Roy ever comes back 100%, Mathews would be a great 6th man.

Matthews is really struggling. His PER is down to 14.8, yet his usage is up to 22.1. Hopefully Roy comes back a bit more healthy to add some consistent offense outside of LMA and Miller.
