After years of procrastination I have to get the upper ones pulled this Monday.

I have no choice as one already came through and the other is starting to come through and I feel the pressure.

So not looking forward to this shit.

    :sigh:

If I've said no to the dentist for 30 years, you can too. Be a man! A dead man?
    -----------------
It made news in the local newspaper -- the Fridge's gap-toothed smile was no more.

He wasn't messing around. He had all of his upper and lower teeth pulled and replaced. His smile was radiant. The only hitch was that in the ensuing days and weeks, he developed an infection in his mouth. A doctor prescribed antibiotics, but Perry had always been resistant to taking any sort of medication. It must've been a macho thing; he never had a valid answer as to why. But the longer he ignored his medicine, the sorer his mouth became. And the more his gums hurt, the more he began to drink vodka. He kept a gallon of it on his window sill. "Whenever he would drink, he didn't feel any pain,'' says Daryl. "So he was masking the pain with the alcohol.''

All that being said, the doctors can only theorize now about what happened next. Because at some point in 2007, after the dental work, Perry's feet began going numb. And then his knees. And then his hands. For all intents and purposes, the Fridge was becoming frozen solid. "I couldn't get up,'' he says. "I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything, couldn't hold a fork or spoon or anything.''

...But once he was on the verge of paralysis, and was having trouble hearing, Valerie got her way in June of 2008. Perry was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers and diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a disorder triggered when a person's immune system attacks his peripheral nervous system. It can start as muscle weakness and result in paralysis and death, and Perry had an advanced case.

Daryl says he was told by doctors that the mouth infection could have caused it and that the heavy drinking could have exacerbated it. Either way, the Fridge was in the hospital for five months.

I had all 4 pulled on the Friday before the Super Bowl while I was an undergrad, and the bottom two were impacted. By Super Bowl Sunday, I was drinking Budweiser and eating hot wings. By Thursday, I had rotten food in the holes and dry rot setting in. Plus, my housemates almost threw up when walking into our house due to the stench in my mouth. By May, I was literally pulling bone fragments out from the lower jaw.

    Good luck!

They aren't impacted. My orthodontic instructed me to get 'em pulled so many times....

    ...10 years later

One side is all the way out and the other is poking through. Better late than never.

Picking bone as in a deteriorating tooth/root? holy shit man

No. Picking bone as in impacted tooth had to be hammered out during the surgery, and bone fragments were left in the lower jaw, and the bone fragments finally worked their way out of the gum 4 months later. I think you're in the same place I was prior to surgery, though, because the pressure of the wisdom teeth was making sleep impossible and concentrating on other things near impossible.

Still, the codeine and the beer on Super Bowl Sunday years ago was worth it! You'll be fine.

My uncle was a dentist. My grandmother took me over to his office and told her son if he hurt me, he'd have to deal with her. He numbed me massively, but I had no pain. I only remember the crunching sound.

    Thanks, Mom Mom.

mine was as pleasant as could be. went in in the morning. They knocked me out. I woke up and was high as hell. Went to CVS Pharmacy and walked around there basically stoned off my ass. Got a Jamba Juice (wasn't supposed to use a straw, the clot came out). Did not get dry socket luckily. Chilled...took a nap and went out drinking beers later that night.

3 of them out..all were impacted and causing me massive headaches. My OMFS was really good. No pain, didn't even need to use one pain pill (I saved the vicodins for personal enjoyment).

I didn't have a lot of pain, except for one of them that was a being a little bitch. The cracking sound of the teeth & the pressure used to crack them is a little funky.

Unfortunately afterwards I had some nerve damage which hasn't gone completely away. A small part of my tongue is numb with a pins & needles feeling when pressure is applied. Additionally if you poke the gums around my right side molars it feels like my tongue is being pinched. Very odd.

I have three active in the x-rays, however my lower right have been bothering me for about 10 days with slight pain but have never busted through the skin. Now the pain is gone and I am good. However, i won't get the wisdome teeth dug out from my gum line or jaw like my brother did. He was in total pain when the dentist did that and he was in pain for about a month. I wont have the surgery done unless the tooth really pokes through the gumline or is pushing towards another tooth.

I was out of it for a week. I got mine taken out the Monday of spring break my senior year in high school. My face swelled up like a chipmunk and it didn't subside until more than a week later. I couldn't eat anything solid for a good 5 days after the surgery. It sucks!

Make sure they give percocet! Top two came right out, but my bottom two were impacted. Most painful 3 or 4 days of my life following the surgery. Ate a lot of yogurt. Didn't mess with food I wasn't supposed to eat and avoided infection.

side note: Oral Surgeon did the sugery, btw. I didn't know there were other options. They also really encouraged me not to get put under during the surgery. Opted for Nitros. That shit is crazy stuff, btw.

I'm 35 and still have my wisdom teeth. They hurt for a few months when they came in but I didnt have dental insurance at the time to get them pulled. They arent a problem now and my dentist said I might as well leave them in if they arent causing any issues.

Everyone of my friends who've had theirs taken out all had infections right before which led to 'asap extractions'.

I just feel pressure, no infection or even pain.

Btw, mods can you fix the spelling in the title?
