Didn't the Blazers say it would be 3 weeks back on Jan 20th?

Good thing we cut Chris Johnson. See Cho clearly knew what he was doing. :NOTMARIS:

That pissed me off too. It's not like he was a difference maker, but he allowed LA to take another minute or so of rest.

Me three. Camby was not going to be back before Johnson's second 10-day was up. Small change to give LaMarcus a few minutes of rest without having to resort to Marks.

It hasn't hurt us so far. As I recall, if we use the Camby injury exception for CJ's 2nd 10 day, Camby would have had to wait 14 days to return.

With Joel slowly rounding back into at least being a serviceable player, I don't think the kid would have seen the floor again anyway.

You know I keep seeing people say that like Camby was actually coming back that quickly or something. I think it was fairly obvious he wasn't. Others may disagree, but when Camby gets hurt to the point he misses games he doesn't hurry back. He never has his whole career.

I agree with this. This is actually one of the things that pisses me off no end about the Blazers. They almost never seem to know what's going on with injuries. For some reason they stated publicly that Camby would be back in 3 weeks and it's now a few days past that. Who knows why they made that statement? Camby has never been a player to come back quickly from injury so what the heck were they thinking??? If they don't know when somebody's coming back just say that and continue to give updates on the guy's progress. They either mislead fans on a player's return date or they give no information at all. Very frustrating...

nobody on any sports team truly knows whats what with injuries as there are too many variables in play. This is why teams issue estimates on when they might return. Sometime the injured player comes back earlier, sometimes later and sometimes they get it right. Having seen this umpteen times before, if any fan still thinks an estimate is anything other then a best guess and generates actual frustration on a weeks out guess not proving to be spot on correct, thats not on the team.

if the Blazers did it like the Ducks football team does where regardless of the injury they just publicly say that everyone is day to day/we hope to have him back soon, would that be any less frustrating? I suspect the same frustrated posters would still be pissed off to no end

That is nice if you choose not to learn from history. Camby has a history of not hurrying back. Part of a GM's job is to know the tendencies of the players on his team, and to be frank, most fans of the NBA that have followed Camby over his career have been astute enough to notice that he doesn't hurry back from injuries when he finally gets to the point where he has to sit down for a while. That is his history. You can either ignore history or learn from it, and use that information to make your best move.

it's sad that you can't read... sad for you, not me

my view is that an injured player will be back when he is able, I don't care much if the estimate proves correct or not

Typically, I would agree with you.

Except this time, Cho decided not to resign Chad Johnson because he was sure Camby would be able to play within 2 weeks.
Had Portland kept Johnson they Camby would have been forced to sit the entire 2 weeks.

Which, it turns out, is exactly what happened.

The point here is that Cho didn't pay attention to the following facts:
    A. Portland's medical staff hasn't been correct once in the last 4 years.
    B. Camby has a history of sitting longer then the team doctors predict he should.
    C. The likelihood of another injury to a Blazer big man was pretty high (in fact, DC is hurt pretty damn bad but is so tough he plays anyway.)

So, Cho made an important decision based on near complete ignorance.
And it isn't the first time.
For example, gambling that a CP3 lead team would be a mid lottery team and assuming a second round draft pick would be able to play significant minutes.
Frankly, it's like the dude hasn't ever even watched basketball before.

Ochocinco has some hops, but I don't think he's the best fit for us at PF/C.
