Paul Allen's Blazers, under first-year GM Rich Cho, could be an exception. Portland is riddled with injuries once again and residing in the lower half of the West playoff picture. Miller and Marcus Camby are potential chips. Some have suggested that Brandon Roy, who's set to return this week, could also be in play.
"That's one team that I can see make a move," Kerr said. "They're saddled with some bad, long-term deals. I could see them doing something. Cho when he got there made a pretty big deal about how there was going to be change, and they've been waiting for change and nothing's happened.

I'd like him as GM....as long as he didn't bring his deal making along with him

Other than Roy, what are the other bad long-term deals?

Aldridge is waayyy underpaid. Matthews is underpaid, especially given his age. Miller and Prz can expire if we want, and Camby's contract seems to be about in line with his shelf life. Then you've got a bunch of rookie deals.

There's not much there to blow up in terms of bad contracts. Even with Roy, there's no way I want to trade that lousy contract when you factor in that we'd have to seriously sweeten the deal with good cheap players.

I like Kerr and think he's generally pretty smart. But I don't really get it. If there is a "blow up," it'll involve dealing some combination of Miller/Prz/Camby for younger unproven guys. But that'll be about getting younger, not dumping huge contracts.

Saddled with some bad long term deals?? I can see him including Roy in that. Who else are we saddled with on a bad, long term deal? We have 3 guys under contract after next season. Roy, Aldridge and Matthews.

We even have more than that after next season. Coffee for you too?

I know he doesn't do a lot but Babbit is on the books for a couple more years with his rookie deal....

I think Kerr is talking about trading our starting PG and C and perhaps moving our former starting SG to clear cap room and to get younger. I don't think he's talking about trading Aldridge or Batum to build around a new set of players.

I wasn't agreeing with him, as I haven't checked, I was just pointing out your failure in reading his post. Need some coffee? :)

Edit: Actually, I went and checked and RR7 is right. Babbitt and Williams have team options for 2012. Fernandez and Batum will require qualifying offers to keep. The only players with guaranteed contracts for those years are the players he named.

Since when does "doing something" equate to "blowing it up"?

I swear, some people lack even an elementary school level of reading comprehension.

I consider trading Camby and Miller as blowing it up, because if you do that you are not planning on making the playoffs if you don't fill those voids, and I don't see many trades that can take place that would bring in players to replace them coming back in.

Agreed, but I really don't see either one of those guys being moved. Joel, maybe.

Rudy enjoys winding people up; I guess it says to him that he matters. It's a classic Cluster B personality type response.

Is anyone else missing the "blow it up" sentiment in Kerr's words?

    I think that's a Cluster F personality.
