I think he's simply had more weight on his shoulders this year (PT, Expectations, and role), and his shortcoming's are more glaring.

IMO any experience that doesn't break you progresses you. I have no doubt Batum will put it all together and shine.

People on here are so shortsighted, like hey let's give up on LMA, he won't ever reach his potential!

I don't think he goes in the Outlaw or Webster boat yet man. I don't think he is a star, but I don't think he should be struggling like he has either. He should be able to attain being a good defending SF who carries his part of the load on offense. Unfortunately Portland's offense, is not good on SF types. SF types are meant to get shots within the sytem at certain spots. Batum seems apprehensive to take those shots.

Another point I would bring up is the fact that as long as Batum has been here, we have never had another SF with experience for him to draw off of. When he got here, it was Outlaw and Webster, neither of whom was any good, neither of whom had veteran experience to draw off of. That is still the case today.

All I said is that he's regressed. You're filling in an awful lot of blanks here.

def dont think he deserves to be on the list, but if your opinion is that a 22 y/o has peaked and is "nothing special" then you should EAFBD

    Nicolas Batum #88
    Guard-Forward Portland Trail Blazers
    Height: 6-8 Weight: 210
    Born: Dec 14, 1988 - Lisieux, France
    College: None
Draft: 2008 - 1st round (25th pick) by the Houston Rockets
    Pts 11.7 Reb 4.7 Ast 1.6

Nicolas Batum just turned 22 years old. He has terrific athleticism and natural talent, and a good, team-first attitude. He's a willing and able defender. He has a good, but inconsistent, three point shot. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on this young player.

I think hasoos makes an interesting point about bringing in Batum as a teenager without a decent SF role model on the team. I think it would be wise to acquire a vet SF this off season. You know, after we trade for an all-star point guard and draft a backup PF. :)

There is no way in hell he should be on the 5 worst list. He's not even on the 5 worst list for his own team!!

    Babbit
    Mills
    Andre
    Johnson

Completely ridiculous that there aren’t four defenders worse than Nic in the NBA. That’s beyond stupid.

First of all what is Synergy Sports and who the fuck wrote this. Nowadays, anybody with a computer can type up some random bullshit and publish it.

The link is just a tweet. Twitter fucking sucks. There is no way in hell Nic should be considered one of the five worst defenders in the league. He's one of the better defensive players in the league, tbh.

I did a quick look up on defensive stats on HoopData for defensive plays (steals + blocks + charges). Defense is a team effort but this is a good rough gauge of effort on defense.

I sorted it per 40 minutes and players that played 30+ minutes.

    League average is 2.14

    Bogut is #1 with 4.09

Batum is #46 with 2.23 defensive plays per 40 min:

    Defense/Rebounding Stats
Player Name Yr Tm Pos GP Min OReb DReb TReb ORR DRR TRR STL BLK CHG DEF PF
    Nicolas Batum 2009 POR SF 79 18.4 2.3 3.7 6.1 7.1 11.8 9.4 1.38 1.07 0.30 2.75 3.8

It's just another one of those bullshit things to draw attention. It's like when Brandon Roy was left off that list of the top shooting guards.
