1. Someone go to the trade checker and show me a trade you would make for JR Smith that’s actually reasonable. I think we’d have to give up a minimum of four players to do it (KT, Scal, Bogans, JJ). Even if you assume, which I don’t, that KT would be coming back in a month, that adds to the complexity and expense of the trade. It also means the Nuggets have to send at least two other players, besides Smith, back to us. Which adds to their complexity and expense of doing it, and may also affect their willingness to do it. 2. It’s legitimate to worry about the effect Smith would have here. He’s a guy who’s got a very long track record, much longer than Mayo’s, of being, really, kind of a douche. So much so that the Nuggets, who are themselves a good team, and presumably would want him even more after they trade away Anthony’s offense, would seem ready to give him away for next to nothing. Does not compute.
