Rank these PGOTF options in your order of preference (these are in my preferred order: Trade Joel for Sessions Draft Nolan Smith (or some other college PG not named Kyrie Irving) Petteri Koponen Trade Miller for Harris Armon Johnson Patty Mills Rudy Fernandez Other reasonable option (please specify) Anyone want to play?
I think that what Miller does for Aldridge this year makes it very hard to trade him. I would still love to improve the backup PG with someone that is younger than Miller and possibly has a longer shelf life. I would still love to see Capt. Kirk as our backup PG - and mentioned it before - give the Wiz some cap relief with a Joel/Kirk based package - maybe something like Joel/Babbit for Kirk/Hilton Armstrong.
If we can get Sessions for JPEC, that's far and away my top choice. Miller and Sessions would be a very high-level point guard rotation and Sessions can be groomed as the PGOTF for whenever Miller fades. There's no cost to the present (we retain Miller for a playoff run) and a possible future payoff.
No clue. It makes sense for them - they are saving $8m next year and get a prospect - but maybe they value Kirk to mentor Wall. Who knows?
I agree. IMO the team for this season needs to look at upgrading the bench, and for as little costs as possible. If we could add a PG for the bench unit that was worth a damn, it could be huge for the stability of the team with the 2nd unit with Roy coming back. The team needs to eliminate these stretches where the 2nd unit comes in and blows the whole lead that was gained, or puts the team behind the 8 ball for trying to come back and win. I don't know about you, but when Patty Mills comes in the game I cringe.
This the direction I would prefer to see Cho go with. Second to that is trading Miller for Harris ... beyond that I'm not sure I like any of the choices laid out in the OP.
Re-sign Dre, find the PGotF in the draft and let him develop. Dre's game is grounded and he uses his smarts to make plays, so I can see him playing upto his 40s without too much of a dropoff. I like Devin Harris, but Dre is currently better than him at essentially every aspect of the game (except for defense, when Harris tries). And given his durability issues, I don't like that exchange as much as I thought I did before.
The one thing about Harris I like is his ability to explode to the hole. He is quick. But because of the toll that driving to the basket takes on a small player's body, he doesn't seem to do it very often anymore. I could be wrong. I don't watch a lot of NJ games. Miller seems to do everything else as good if not better. My gut tells me to stick with Miller through next year, and quickly find that PGOTF. Not sure if Harris is that long term guy either. So regardless of who we trade for, keep Andre.
This is pretty much my position as well. Let Dre ball here for as long as he's willing. We're not going to suffer if he loses speed or leaping ability.
Considering that Jason Kidd added a jump shot late in his career, it is never to late to become a weapon from the outside, as well.
C'mon--yeah, he got better after he got to Dallas, but it's not as if he hasn't taken lots of jump shots his whole career. You do know that he's third on the all-time 3-pointers made list, right? That doesn't happen because of just 2-3 years of proficiency.
Yep, but that doesn't make him a good shooter. He was more of a "timely 3" guy before that. Put it this way. If he was taking a 3 against us in the first 8 years of his career, I was a happy camper. There is a huge difference between number of 3's made, and 3 point percentage. When you play 16 years, you get a lot of chances. Also note, that Jason still has problems if his feet are not set. He is a set shooter instead of a jump shooter from the outside. If his feet are set, he hits them well, but not so much if he gets turned into a jump shooter. That is why it reminded me of Miller. Miller never gets off the ground. But a 3 point set shot like Jason has now, would greatly enhance his total game, and the spacing for the Blazers.
Hey we are going to get to see Wesley and Brandon Jennings play together in the rookie-sophomore game. Nothing like a test drive right? Yes I am kidding.
Heh. From CP3 and Roy in the Sunday game to Wes and Jennings in the rookie game. Man, we're going in the wrong direction. (And isn't it just ironic that CP is now bone-on-bone in one knee without a meniscus?)
