I agree with the excerpt (I'm not going to click and help Cancer's hit count). If this is pure editorial, that's better than when he disguises his opinions with fake anonymous sources. It's hard to find an experienced NBA star who wants to play here, but I guess that doesn't matter, since our management and fans always want the youngest (=lowest basketball IQ) team in the league. If not for McMillan, this pursuit would keep us near the bottom every year.
Seems like Canzano needs to get on the same page with Quick's column where he gives a statement from Camby's agent: http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2011/02/trail_blazers_center_marcus_ca_2.html Hmmm. Canzano make something up to put Blazers management in a bad light? Naw. Never happens.
To be honest, John, you are a little too close and familiar to the "guys" to be objective about anything Canzano might bring up. If you can refute specifically what the article says, please do so. I know you are loathe to air the players or coaches "dirty laundry" on this board because you consider them personal friends and wish to respect their privacy, but just blanketly saying "Fuck Canzano, he doesn't know what he's talking about!" strikes as blindly defending your friends and not actually saying he's wrong. Canzano exists to say outrageous things to sell newspapers and sell radio advertising, but usually there's at least a smidgen of truth to his ranting. He rarely ever completely makes things up... how MUCH is true is a "your mileage may vary" situation.
Canzano taking something that isn't that big of a deal (in this case a "timeline" being put on returning from surgery... not like other teams do that too) and deciding to try and make something out of nothing. Must be a slow news day for everything if this is all he has.
Two things about the article are spot on. One, the timeline given for Camby's return was way too short. Absurdly so, in my opinion. Two, Camby has never come back early from an injury. He rehabs until He believes he is ready and has never cared what the team's medical staff had to say. As for how the above two things relate to Camby's feelings and all that, I am pretty sure Canzano is just guessing like the rest of us.
I don't understand WHY the Blazers would want to trade Marcus considering: -we desperately need a center who can rebound and defend. -his contract will not hinder us in any way -his teammates all like him and respect him Canzano has been the only one to suggest that we should trade him. This is non-news.
Canzano definitely tries to stir the pot to sell articles. Take these 2 stories he wrote in the same year. The 1st was referring to Roy making the all star team and finding a private moment to himself in the tunnel before games. The second some 10 months later is more about Roy being selfish and withdrawn from his teammates. It borders on making him look completely unpatriotic. http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2009/01/a_private_guy_who_should_be_in.html and the second one. http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or...f/2009/11/canzano_the_moment_when_blazer.html
