"Ed Jovanovski, whose season already was compromised with injuries and bouts with the flu, will miss several weeks after undergoing surgery Friday for an orbital bone fracture.

The veteran defenseman was injured late in Thursday night's game against Atlanta when he and the Thrashers' Patrice Cormier collided, face to face, as the second period was coming to an end. He was placed on injured reserve.

His absence comes at a critical time for the Coyotes, who lead the Pacific Division by one point and begin a five-game road trip Saturday in Nashville."
