"Details of the Michael Young saga weren't made available Saturday afternoon, when the six-time All-Star made his highly anticipated arrival to Texas Rangers spring training.

The most important thing, according to the player and club officials, is that the focus should now shift to baseball and not the off-season imbroglio that went public two weeks ago.

Young says he won't talk further about his request to be traded after being "misled" repeatedly during the off-season, and team president Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels were mostly mum when asked directly about dealing away the Rangers' all-time hits leader.

But Young didn't rescind his demand to be traded, and the club's top two baseball executives believe that he would still accept a trade should one develop.

For now, Young said he is ready to embrace his new role, and Ryan and Daniels both believe that Young will be in the starting lineup when the Rangers open the 2011 season April 1 against Boston.

"I'm here to get ready for a baseball season," Young said during a news conference shortly after his arrival at the Surprise Recreation Campus.

"After all this stuff is done, there's a season to be played. My job in spring training is to go out and play as well as I possibly can."

A series of conversations with Ryan, including one recently, has convinced Young that both he and the Rangers understand each other's point of view.

Young said that a third position switch, this time to primary designated hitter and super utility man, is not the reason for his discontent. He wouldn't reveal the reasons but said "a lot of things led to this point" and "there were some situations during the off-season that really [hacked] me off."

But Ryan believes that Young might be upset about being included in trade talks before he made his request in late January, and Young has also made it clear that he has concerns about being labeled as a DH going forward."
