http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AqUrNNGi4WasVDdBNApOTUG8vLYF?slug=mc-anthonyknicks022111 The Denver Nuggets have finally completed their long-awaited trade to send Carmelo Anthony(notes) to the New York Knicks, a league source told Yahoo! Sports. The Knicks are expected to send Danilo Gallinari(notes), Raymond Felton(notes), Wilson Chandler(notes), the Knicks’ 2014 first-round pick, two second-round picks and $3 million. The Knicks will also trade Anthony Randolph(notes) and Eddy Curry’s(notes) expiring contract to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who would send Corey Brewer(notes) to the Nuggets. The Knicks would receive Anthony, Chauncey Billups(notes), Shelden Williams(notes) and Renaldo Balkman(notes).
Their bench is very weak. Personally I am not scared of that team. Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, and Wilson Chandler are the ones that gave us real problems this year with their speed and 3 pt shooting. They're gone. That being said, they could make some noise, but their bench could hurt them. Have no picks until 2015 and 10 million to spend next year. Toney Douglas, Bill Walker, Balkman, and Shelden Williams is their bench. I would be afraid had NY waited until the summer, kept felton, and Gallinari, then added Melo.
Yea, Im not scared of them at all cuz theyre just the 2 man miami heat. They have firepower, but no bench or depth, which will prolly come back to hurt them in the long run. Say thanks to Isiah again NY!
Broussard just said on ESPN that Corey Brewer is going to the Knicks in this deal Denver Post reporting that Corey Brewer is coming to the Nugz not the Knicks. Go figure
At some point I'm really going to want to hear an in depth explanation of why the TWolves want to spend any time on Anthony Randolph. Their only legit player plays the same position, as well as their second best player. So... um... what gives?
Am I the only one who feels like the Bulls dodged a bullet. If Anthony would have waited and not insisted that he kill his new team, in terms of both salary structure and talent, the Knicks could have had Deron Williams this off season. That's a team that would have scared me. As situated, not so much.
How could the Knicks have had Deron Williams this off season? As it stands, they'll only have Melo and Amare under contract when DWill and CP3 are due to be FAs. And before then, they'll have Billups, who's fading but not exactly done yet. Obviously we don't know what the rules will look like in summer 2012, but if they're anything like they are now, the Knicks would be able to offer one of those guys a "max" deal.
The Knicks were not a real threat this year and just turned a heaping helping of average to above average talent into a superstar. Amare / Melo is a hell of a core to build around. Superstars win in the NBA. That team is going to be tough now and better in the future as they build around it. Like the Heat, this team will be scarier in the next couple years than it is now, and it will likely be pretty damn good now. Look for Billups to thrive short term in the Knicks system, if he wants to play. I don't want to run into this team in the playoffs, but we should own the paint. Players are going to want to play in NYC for a player friendly, offensive oriented coach alongside Melo and Amare. Short term, Billups / Fields / Melo / Amare is a nice squad and as they fill in the blanks its going to get better. They are going to be a thorn in the Bulls sides going forward. They have deep pockets, a core of legit stars and they are a place where many players want to play. If the next CBA's cap isnt' too hard, look out. This is another golden age of the Eastern Conference. The Bulls, The Heat, the Knicks and the Magic (or whereever Howard ends up long term) for the next few years and the Celtics currently before they fade away. Lebron, Wade, Rose, Amare, Melo, Howard, Garnett, Pierce, Allen, Bosh, Noah, Boozer. Strap it down boys, its gonna be a NBA war.
Well, can't say we didn't have fair warning on this one. The Knicks now two WC superstars known for putting up great offensive numbers, but not being able to carry their teams to the Promised Land. Together... The East 1-6 looks very interesting, so those top 2 seeds just became more highly prized. Congrats to Melo...it is possible to have your cake and eat it too.
kinda what I was referring to earlier at least in my mind. The knicks could have been better had they tried to get another player first, then let Melo come later. If what he was saying is true, its about winning, although he I have my doubts about that.
What I find interesting is that New York actually made the trade now instead of waiting for the summer when they could have given up nobody and just signed him as a FA. Knicks are 6th seed, so they certainly improved their playoff chances. They also did what the Bulls could not - parlayed cap space into 2 top tier players. Maybe three if you count Billups.
i have to say kudos to Denvers front office. They did well in the trade. Still lost the trade, but compared to some of the resent superstar S&t's, theirs is head over heals better than any of them.
Yeah, but it's not clear yet how good it tastes, whether it's butter cream frosting (yum!) or the Walmart special. I guess they'll be pretty good. Still say CA is a jerk, and the system sucks, and DRose will take this personally.
I haven't seen the $$ on Anthony's extension, but I'm guessing it's more than what the Knicks would have been able to sign him for under the new CBA. It's a pretty expensive accommodation, but they now have a second happy superstar. It'll be interesting to see how this new Knicks team plays. They kind of look like Heat-lite on paper. I seldom make a point to watch a specific regular season non-Bulls game, but I think I'll circle the 2/27 Heat-Knicks game as must-see TV. As for parlaying cap space, I think dealing two young talented players they drafted was kind of important as well.
