How do you think the next US Basketball team will do in the Olympics? 2004 was obviously a dissapointment. I think after seeing last years derailing, Coach K will do whatever he can in his power to squeeze out the chemestry in the team and put together a gold medal worthy team....but, once again, I don't think the US team will pull together against the rest of the world. They are improving from an already impressive 2000 and 2004 Olympics. I guess it depends on if the US players can lose their egos. Iverson isn't going to be on it, so there is one ego out. Coach K doesn't really have a ton of experience from Duke at this. It's going to be a wild ride in Beijing.

Somebody needs to say it...I don't care if we win the olympics in basketball, most of those players are scrubs and the olympics and USA basketball are completly different games. Foreign players come here for a reason and that is to play with the best. Everyone knows we are far and away the best and to me beating or losing to those teams means nothing....I'm not going to pretend to care about how we do there. The olympics don't matter much anymore and I don't blame players for not going and risking injury..etc.

Yea, it's a different game, just pass pass pass until someone is open the open guy shoots. Defense is pretty non existance due to the offensive style.Guys like Lebron won't get those travel calls in the international game. However I believe we will win it this time because we have the assets this time around.

Cmon man it's common knowledge you put Stephon, AI, Lebron, Pierce the guys who are the facilitators for their teams all on one team they're not gonna do as well. Just from watching the games it was obvious we needed guys like Ray Allen and Redd to hit from outside and guys like Rip to just run around back pics to hit jumpers.

That's all media bullcrap, we were so much better than them it shouldn't have been a contest. I doubt you watched any of those games. We simply got out worked and out hustled and thats why we lost. Yeah shooting was a problem but everyone blew it completley out of proportion. Correction (PP was not on the team).

I honestly have no idea how well this team will do but I still think Coach K not even inviting Iverson to tryout is bull crap. I mean it makes me think he probably doesn't watch AI play much and probably thinks of Iverson as the steretypical Iverson. The Iverson that is a ballhog and has a horrible shot selection. I mean Iverson han't been playing liek that for a while now and it's pretty obvious he wouldn't be a ballhog w/ all that tallent around him but a playmaker instead. Iverson will do that when hes playing w/ a ton of talent. I mean hes shown it in the all star game.

I thought it was Jerry Colangelo who put the team together?

And I like Kobe my 2nd fav player in the NBA, but if you say AI has a ego Kobe shoots even more then AI. AI not being invited is a joke. AI passes when he has guys around him like in the all star game. I still think there is a chance he can be invited once players start to drop out. But it's not the same when you did not get put on the team right away. AI will still be happy to play for team USA because he wants to play for his country unlike half the other players that don't even wanna be there AI does wanna be there.

I watched pretty much every US game possible and as bcb said, they were outworked. But, their shooting was beyond amazing, especially their 3's. Marbury pretty much sucked except for one game when he blew out. Duncan was called for every foul possible, those refs were pansies. The opposition had no answer to Duncan. Ai also with his broken finger shot 30 percent. The person i liked during the olympics was Carlos boozer, he rebounded the ball pretty well. The person i was mostly disappointed with was Carmelo, he would come in and take some stupid ass shots. As for these world championships and olympic games in 08, i don't see a team with Kobe and lebron losing. It's not even concievable. Especially having a guy like kobe on youre side who's pretty much unguardable because he can burn you from everywhere on the court. No way USA loses in 08.

BCB if you don't care just don't post. You don't care but you still have the most posts in this thread...I think the US will win this time. I have confidence that Colangelo can put a good team together. It should be an exciting Olympics.

I can reply anywhere I want, I don't need you telling me what I can and cannot do. I honestly don't give a sh*t if we win the olympics or if we come in last...but when someone says that our shooting was why we lost, thats bullcrap and I felt like proving him wrong.

I really didn't bother reading the entire thread, but I just want to add my two cents.First and foremost, both Jerry Colangelo and Coach K decided which players to invite for the team. The fact of the matter is that no matter how you look at it, EVERY SINGLE EXCUSE/REASON they gave for not inviting Iverson was absolutely bullsh**, but that is a topic of it's own. This is probably the most organized effort to construct an actual team that the US Basketball team has ever had since they began using NBA players in international competition. The last two times out, the excuse was that the team was thrown together at the last minute, and that supposedly played a huge part in why we were unsuccessful in bringing home the gold. Now, no matter what, if we don't bring hom the gold this time around, what's the excuse? We did everything we didn't do last time around, in terms of actually holding tryouts and trying to put together a real team instead of a group of All-Stars (although that hasn't been done yet).If we lose this time around, there are no more excuses for the media and everybody else to throw around. I really don't care one way or the other, but I know I'll be paying attention just to see which direction this "storyline" will go...
