This morning the BART train was late. The train <should> arrive at 6:26 and my shuttle bus to work departs 6:30, so it's tight. I figured I might just make it if I tore up the escalator. The escalator was broken. I tried to run up the stairs but my bad knee gave out halway up the third flight. I limped the rest of the way and the bus was still there. Tried to charge out the fare gate. Fare gate broken; had to get station agent to stamp transit card. By this time bus was gone. Waited for next bus, which was late. And my right knee is threatening to fold up under me. F**K!!! A taste of what is to come as states get rid of all those useless public workers who maintain tracks and stations and repair roads and drive buses...
You ignorance is stunning. You do realize that if the WI bill does not pass, that the state will lay off workers, and if it passes, those jobs are saved in the budget. Also, seems to me that you just criticized how your public transportation failed you. Perhaps privatizing it would yield better results, and you wouldn't have a hurt knee?
Blazer fan, knee injury... you had to know it was going to happen, crandc. All our knees are doomed. barfo
Oh god. Just what I need. Ignorance? I live in California and funds for public transportation got cut every year. So fewer maintenance workers, fewer cleaners = more late trains and non-functioning equipment. You know, before calling someone ignorant, try checking facts. Doesn't matter if publicly or privately owned, if understaffed a business won't function properly. This is not to mention that I was taking the cake I made for nuraman outside Monday to photograph for my book, lost my footing and fell down the stairs. Fell hard on concrete but was not even aware until I woke up bruised & sore next day. Too upset about the cake crash landing on the ground. I'm making nuraman a new one as this one was only fit for compost. Hope the worms like it. And one of my favorite coworkers got laid off yesterday after we were told our department would not have layoffs. They are changing the shuttle schedule so my commute home, now 2 hrs, will become 2 1/2. The shuttles are run by the private company I work for who decided the shuttles to BART were not full enough (they were full, just not sardines). This week sucks.
It's always frustrating when public transportation lets one down. Adding an inop escalator and a bum knee adds insult to injury. Just one of those days. Tomorrow, trains and buses will be on time, the escalator will work and there will be coffee on your desk as you peruse S2 on the 'net rather than working.
True, but the good workers will find better jobs elsewhere and the bad workers will coast because they've been ripped off. No actual savings will be realized by taxpayers.
It would be the first time. Having helped put together studies and proposals to privatize several government programs and positions (printing, photography, warehousing, shipping, storage, transportation...) in my Federal career I can attest to a large increase in cost to the government and a definite drop in quality/efficiency in every case.
Hmm...maybe I'll try feeding my bed of nightcrawlers chocolate cake this spring and see if the fish favor the flavor. Thanks, crandc.
It was actually pineapple pecan upside down cake. Still have not fixed escalator, train on time, I don't drink coffee.
