"Sean Williams - 6'10", 235 lbs and 24 years old. Currently in the D-League but avg'd 4.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 1.2 blocks in 14.9 minutes shooting .505 FG%. Had maturity issues which led NJ to cut him. Has reportedly straightened things out recently and is averaging 14.3 ppg, 9.6 rpg 3.2 blocks and shooting .573 from the field while adding in a new part to his game hitting .438% from 3-pt range...he had never made one at New Jersey. He is currently playing 32.8 points per game. It was never about talent with this kid about his attitude and maturity. If he has grown, he might be a great pick up."

Possible head case yes, but given the quality guys and leadership we have here, and if he has matured, how much risk is a 10-day contract? I'd say give him a shot, he's probably the best big in Dleague

Other guys have better stats in the DLeague, like Courtney Sims and Marcus Cousin.

better "stats" does not mean they are as Nba ready or will play as well in the NBA, the reason Williams in out of the NBA was attitude and noy ability, if that has changed IMO a 10-day is worth a shot IMO

You called him the best big in the D-League. He averages 4 and 4. I'd say that guys who are averaging 15 and 10 are better against similar competition.

you did not read the post correctly, the "4 and 4" was from his Nba days, he's avg 14.3 and 9.6 THIS Dleague season.

also note I said "probably the best"

He's a VERY talented player and a capable defensive player it seemed. I'd love to reach out to him and get him on the court. He made positive things happen on the court.

Reading fail! I would say Williams is the best big in the D-League. Courtney Sims is several years older and not as athletic and doesn't block many shots. I have no idea who Marcus Cousin is, so maybe he's better. 4 points and 4 rebounds is perfect for the role he would play.

I like this idea but I think the Blazers are looking for a guy that's a little bigger that can play C for 10min a game.

AGAIN Williams is avg 14.3 and 9.6 in Dleague NOW! He made the Dleague all star team, he is not attached to any team.

Here's another tidbit I picked up on this "improved" attitude

"Sean Williams, 6-10, PF/C, Texas Legends 15.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 61 FG%, 69 FT% Matt Kamalsky Former first round draft pick Sean Williams had a solid week on the floor, but the feedback we heard about him off it may have caught our attention most. On the court, Williams remains the same highly athletic defensive presence that he was in the college game, but word is that Williams has been a model citizen off the court for the Texas Legends. Becoming a first-to-arrive, last-to-leave type, Williams seems to have matured past the issues he had off the floor in the past to focus on his basketball career. An effective complementary scorer thanks to his length and athleticism, Williams still hasn't developed a terribly polished post repertoire. However, he has shown that he hasn't lost a step as a rebounder and shot blocker. Whether he's rotating over from the weakside, defending the midrange, or crashing the boards, Williams makes an impact with his physical tools and energy. A top-call up candidate due to his terrific combination of size, athleticism, length and shot-blocking ability, Williams will earn himself a roster spot in the NBA sooner rather than later if he can continue to make good decisions off the floor.

I think him saying reading fail meant he failed and that is good numbers in the d leauge and 4 and 4 in the nba would be good. Course I could be wrong.

As far as Williams, think Tyrus Thomas. Very similar.

well he's bigger than TT, TT is a decent NBA player, if that is the case and as badly as we need bigs that sounds like an endorsement to me?

If that's true we should pounce on him immediately. He's a good athletic big that averaged like 5 blks/game in college. He'd be a great big to have...don't know why I didn't think of him. Someone needs to call Cho and get him on this.

Hmmmm ... I know usually I'd be all for taking a flier on guy like this, but he is such a damn knuckle-head, I almost feel like he'd be close to "subtraction by addition." If it's just about finding a warm body who can defend a little, rebound a little and maybe contest a shot or two for something like 5-10 minutes a night then I have to believe that there are better options even in the D-league.

I'd take a gamble on the guy with a 10 day contract. The guy is really talented, I remember when he was an absolute beast at Boston College.

Correction--WAS such a knucklehead. As indicated above, he has reportedly straightened things out. It would be a minor risk, yes, but there's a decent chance that he would be a worthwhile addition.
